As Asher drove me home, it was all quiet at first, with only the soft hum of the engine filling the air. While! glanced at him from time to time. I bit my lips, I wanted to ask him just a question, but I held back.
After a few minutes, I couldn’t hold back my curiosity any longer. I shifted in my seat and glanced at him. “Asher, can I ask you something?”
His eyes flicked toward me briefly before returning to the road. “You just did.”
Trolled my eyes. “I’m serious.”
“Go ahead,” he said, his tone lighter now, though there was a flicker of something unreadable in his expression.
“What did you mean the other day? When you said you wanted to see me divorced?”
His eyebrows furrowed and he shrugged his shoulders, “I meant exactly what I said,” he replied after a pause, his voice carefully even.
I frowned, not satisfied with his vague answer. “Are you… using me to get back at Ace? To stir up some scandal or
something?”
Asher’s jaw clenched. For a moment, he didn’t say anything, his gaze fixed on the road ahead. I couldn’t read him, but the silence only made my heart throb harder, strange
Finally, he glanced at me, his dark eyes piercing. “Do you really think that’s all this is about?”
I opened my mouth to respond but quickly closed it again. The way he looked at me – it wasn’t teasing
ng or casual like before. It was serious, he had a serious look plastered on his face that left me feeling more confused.
But before I could process it further, Asher’s expression shifted back to his usual expressionless face. He
quickly glanced at me before fixing his eyes on the road.
“Forget it,” he said lightly. “You’ll find out eventually.”
I cleared my throat, redirecting the conversation. “When do I start working, then? For you, I mean.”
“Tomorrow” Asher replied, his tone casual again. “Nine sharp. Don’t be late.”
I nodded, “I won’t.”
“You’ll find out eventually.” Those words lingered in my mind.
What did he mean by that? And why did it feel like there was so much more to Asher than he let on?
The morning came too quickly, I doubt I even had much sleep.
I could feel a nervous energy buzzing through me as I prepared to leave for my first day at Asher’s company.
I adjusted my blazer in the mirror, took a deep breath, and stepped out of the apartment.
Asher was already waiting by his car, leaning casually against the driver’s side door. His sharp suit and
confident smirk were the first things I noticed.
For some reason, my heart tingled around him.
“Get in ”
“Thanks, but no need. I’ll take an Uber.”
“Do you want to be late on the first day of work? It’s a residential area. You’ll need at least thirty minutes to get an
Uber from here”
I looked at the time on the watch and frowned. I didn’t want anyone to get a wrong idea about us, and nor did I wish to leave a bad impression on everyone on the first day
I nodded and slid into Asher’s car, with no other choice

In
It was warming being heated this way by someone so suddenly
The day pasund more smoothly than Lespected My new coworkers were welcoming, the atmosphere was refreshingly light, and I quickly found my rhythm.
by mid–afternoon, I decided to grab a cotton. As I approached the breakroom overheard two coworkers
chatting
Have you seen the new girl? She and Mr. Asher look on good together thought they were a couple
“Hight? They totally match. He even drove her to work this morning. That means something is going on night
“Didn’t you see a viral post on the internet these days? It seems to be our new coworker and the CLO
I tell my checks warm, enharassed Do we mally seem like a couple? The thought was strangely pleasant, but i quickly shook it off and stepped into the room.
Their conversation came to an abrupt halt as they noticed me offered a polite smile, could feel my cheeks
tedden
“paused as Hook the coffee Tm sony Loverheard you guys Asher, and I aren’t in a relationship. He just picked me up in the way”
They exchanged glances before nodding quickly and apologizing
“No, no Don’t apologise. It’s fine “Treplied then left with my coffee, my heart still racing slightly
But as I returned to my desk, caught myself smiling. For some reason, the misunderstanding didn’t bother me
as much as it should have
it it was another time, I’d have cared about such misunderstandings a lot. It was because I didn’t want Ace in misunderstand But now Is it because I’ve finally moved on from Ace?
My phone buzzed again I sighed, already knowing who it might be
Despite blocking Ace and his family repeatedly, they always found ways to reach me through different numbers.
The endless cycle of their messages and calls had become exhausting.
Why wasn’t he just signing the divorce papers? Didn’t he want that?
Edidn’t want to check the message but it caught my eye
“Did you abort our baby?”
I raised my eyebrows. The mention of the abortion made it clear someone had leaked my information.
I pressed my eyebrows together “Who could it be? But he didn’t know that I didn’t about the baby”
My phone buzzed again
I stared at the screen, it was another text from him.

The last thing I wanted was another confrontation
But this time I had to pause for a moment and think Maybe it was time to settle this once and for all
