Chapter 1
My husband slipped birth control into my nightly milk for ten years.
I thought the milk means love. So I gladly became the family’s maid, driver, and servant.
When I finally found out I was pregnant, I rushed to tell him–only to see Dana Meyer in his arms.
“I’m pregnant,” she purred, “When are you dumping Andrea and marrying me?”
“She’s such a useful maid. Once the baby’s born, she can take care of you two.“Daniel smirked. “Oh, and I forgot to give her her milk lately–better start again tomorrow.”
Taking out the divorce agreement I had kept hidden, I made a call. “The ten–year deal is up. Come pick me up.”
But before I leave, I have a “gift” for them.

After settling on a time, I hung up.
Lying on the bed, I stared at the ceiling. I didn’t know how long had passed before Daniel Trivett rushed back with our son Samuel Trivett.
Daniel brought me a glass of milk. “Andrea, get up and drink this.
“I must say, you’re the one at fault today. Samuel is just a kid. Surely, you won’t stay mad at him, right?”
It seemed he didn’t know Samuel video–called me when he and Dana

Enduring the great heartache, I said. “I’m not mad. Samuel is just a lid. I don’t take his words seriously”
Daniel’s brows esised a little, but he sized me up suspiciously. After all, it it were in the past, I would have made a scene already. But now, I didn’t I was fired.
“I already drank some.” I said.
He wanted to say more, but I interrupted. “It’s late. Go to bed, or you’ll feel exhausted tomorro
The next morning. I handed Samuel the herbal tea he needed as he was having breakfast. He deliberately knocked over the glass, the scalding liquid splashing onto my hand.
A scaring pain instantly shot through my wrist. Soon, blisters savelled.
Daniel rushed over and pushed me aside angrily. “Are you blind, Andrea?”
“Ugh, she’s so annoying.” Samuel glanced at me provocatively.
“She’s nothing like Dana. Dana never asks me to do anything I hate.”
I picked up the shreds on the floor in silence. After Samuel was born, he had always been weak and hospitalized most of the time. I went all over the country and visited countless doctors before finally getting this prescription for him.
But he no longer needed it.
Daniel looked at the food on the table made by the maid. “Andrea, why didn’t you cook?”
I put the shreds into the trash can. “I’ve been busy at the hospital lately,”

He glanced at me suspiciously but finally said nothing.
After breakfast, I sent Samuel to school. It was the only time I was allowed to drive the Trivett family’s car.
“Samuel, who’s she?” one of his classmates looked at me curiously.
I smiled, “I’m their maid.”
Samuel looked at me, stunned, swallowing the words he almost said.
If it were in the past, I would have declared loudly that I was his mom.
“Samuel, your maid is so young and elegant.”
The girl took his hand and led him inside.
Among all these years I sent Samuel to school, he addressed me differently–maid, driver, servant.
I gave myself a bitter smile.

Driving back to the Trivett’s house, I checked my bank balance. I canceled Samuel’s medication order, and a large refund arrived immediately.
For once, I allowed myself a small luxury. I hailed a cab to the hospital.
“Later, as I brought some documents to the OB–GYN Department, I saw Daniel gently coaxing Dana to eat.
He’d never looked at me that way, not even once in all our years of
marriage.”
He saw me and looked a bit uneasy. “Dana’s not feeling well. I took her here for a check–up.”
She was his assistant. What kind of boss would take their assistant to the OB–GYN Department for a check–up? What a clumsy lie.

Samuel’s words came back to me, and I knew Dana was pregnant.
Suppressing the bitterness in my heart, I said, “Alright. Ms. Meyer, how are you feeling? Is everything OK?”
Dana faked a smile. “Yes. Thank you for asking, Andrea.”
I tightened my grip on the files and walked away.
That night, Daniel came home with a pearl necklace.
“For you, Andrea.”
I accepted it calmly. When he went for a shower, I checked his phone.
As expected, Dana had posted a photo of a bed covered in jewelry. The caption was, “Love from my baby’s daddy.”
Scrolling down, I saw Daniel’s comment. “For my baby and my beloved
woman.”
Then I checked my own profile. Every post was related to Daniel and Samuel, but Daniel had never responded to any of them.
Early the next morning, Daniel said he wanted to celebrate my birthday with Samuel. But halfway through breakfast, he got a call and just like that, he was ready to leave with Samuel.
Samuel was overjoyed. “Finally! I don’t have to spend the day with a disgusting woman who only cares about money.”
I calmly finished the meal and washed the dishes.
Then I felt nauseated again. Stroking my abdomen, I headed to the meeting place.
