Chapter 13
“Stay away from Ethan! We’re engaged–can’t you see that? Stop following him around!”
Lily’s shrill voice cut through the air as she stormed toward me, her eyes blazing with jealousy.
Before I could answer, Ethan grabbed her arm roughly. “What the hell are you doing?”
“You’re always taking her side!” Lily shrieked, struggling against his grip. “You never yell at her- only me! Don’t you see she’s just trying to steal you back?”
Her outburst drew stares. Ethan’s face darkened, but he didn’t deny it quickly enough.
The truth was obvious.
I raised an eyebrow, feigning confusion. “Excuse me?”
Lily’s face flushed crimson. “I know what you’re doing–you want him back! But guess what? He chose me first. He pushed you away. You think he can just change his mind whenever he feels like
it?”
Her words spilled out in a torrent of anger and desperation.
So it was true. Lily had memories too. She remembered the past life just as I did.
“Enough.” Ethan’s face twisted, shame flickering in his eyes as he tried to shut her up. “You’re
making a scene.”
But Lily was beyond reason. She laughed, high–pitched and broken. “See? He regrets it now, Sophia. He regrets choosing me! Isn’t that pathetic? He thinks you’ll forgive him. But you’re not
that girl from the orphanage anymore–you’re Sophia Smith now.”
Her words hung heavy in the silence.
I tilted my head, forcing a smile. “I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
And with that, I walked away, refusing to let them drag me into their storm.
When I reached the car, Adrian was waiting, leaning lazily against the hood. His lips curved as I
approached.
“What’s wrong? You ran out like something was chasing you.”

I gave a dramatic shiver. “Ghosts. Very scary ones.”
His laughter was soft, low, and warm. “You’ll be fine. I’m here.”
And just like that, the weight of Lily’s hysteria slid off my shoulders.
