My sister had always been timid as a mouse, never daring to even raise her voice.
So when I snapped back like that, Alex was genuinely stunned.
When he finally recovered, he roared, “Eloise, have you lost your damn mind? How dare you talk to your man like this!”
He clenched his fists and stormed toward me.
Susan and Amelie were practically bouncing with excitement, egging him on.
“Yes! Beat the shit out of her! Show her who really runs this house!”
Only little Chloe ran forward, wrapping her tiny arms around his leg and pleading, “Daddy, don’t hit Mommy!”
“Get out of the way!” Alex kicked her aside.
The little girl trembled, but still crawled back and stretched out her skinny arms, trying once again to block him.
“If Daddy’s angry, then hit Chloe instead. Mommy already got hit yesterday.”
Susan yanked Chloe away impatiently.
“You meddling brat, stay out of it! Your mother’s disobedient, and your father’s just teaching her a lesson!”
Amelie twisted Chloe’s ear viciously.
“You little traitor! You’ve got your father’s last
name.
hy are you siding with your mother?”
Meanwhile, David clapped his hands, cheering gleefunt at
“Go, Uncle Alex! You’re the best!”
By then, Alex had reached me, his palm already swinging.
“You filthy woman-
”
But the very next second, his voice caught in his throat, and his feet left the ground.
