I felt like my whole body was breaking apart, with blood coming from my mouth and ears.
Nolan abandoned the panicked Lydia and quickly ran over to hold me.
“Cora! Don’t be afraid. I swear I’ll save you.”
Jasper stayed by my side, continuously pounding the ground with his fist.
“Damn it, how could I be so stupid? Knowing you had thoughts of death, how could I leave you alone at such a time?”
Declan, usually proud and aloof, was now red–eyed and muttering, “How did it come to
this? I was just talking, Mom, why did you jump? Do you really want to die? Can you leave your children behind…
Jasper punched Declan in the face. “Why didn’t you keep an eye on Mom? You knew Doctor Sun warned us, so why didn’t you believe it?”
Declan fell to the ground, spitting blood.
“I really didn’t know… How could Mom seek death for no reason…”

Nolan, holding me, shouted in anger, “Save your mom first!”
I thought I could finally be free this time.
But the three Nolan Family men did everything to save me and made me take special
medicine.
Though I survived, I was locked in the basement at home by Nolan, with the three Nolan Family men taking turns watching me, giving me no time alone.
“Cora, don’t blame me. If you’re outside, you’ll find ways to harm yourself. I never thought you truly wanted to leave me. Are these eighteen years of feelings really so easy for you to
let
go of? I just want to keep you by my side. Is that wrong?”
By the eighth day, I refused to eat or take medicine. Nolan had to force it down my throat.
Even so, I gradually lost weight and grew weaker.
Nolan had no choice but to bring in the two children to persuade me: “The kids miss you. If you’re gone, how will they find their mom? Can you bear it?”
I forced a smile, “Aren’t you married? Let them find that mom.”
Nolan frowned. “Cora, does it have to be like this? Just because of Lydia, you want to
leave me and the kids?”
I closed my eyes, unwilling to look at him anymore.
Nolan had Jasper and Declan come in: “Try to persuade your mom to at least take the
medicine.”
Declan’s eyes were swollen as he crouched by my bed.
“Mom, without you here, I can’t eat, and I’ve lost weight. Didn’t you always care about whether I ate well? If you don’t get better, I’ll get sick soon.”
I stayed expressionless. Whether you eat or not has nothing to do with me now.

I stayed expressionless. Whether you eat or not has nothing to do with me now.
Jasper patted Declan’s shoulder and took his place.
“Mom, I can’t decide between the two dates you chose for me. Please get better and help
me choose.”
I turned my head away.
Whether you marry well or not is no longer my concern.
The maids and servants praised the two sons for their filial piety, urging me to be
content.
I sneered, “You’re all too noisy. Find someone quieter, and I’ll take the medicine.”
The next day, the Nolan Family didn’t appear. Instead, a young mute girl came in and
watched me all day without blinking.
She was peculiar but could stare at me without moving. Every time I woke up, she’d be by my bed, her big eyes fixed on me.
My body gradually recovered, but my heart grew more anxious. Without a chance to die, my time with the family would only drag on.
Until one day, Lydia managed to distract the guards and came in.
Seeing my desperate state, she laughed smugly.
“Look at you now, where’s the dignity of a family matriarch? How does it feel to be locked in a basement? I suggested it to Nolan, saying you might have accidents in a room. Only a place without sunlight could protect you. They believed it.”
Looking at the smug Lydia, I couldn’t help but smile.
“What if you’re temporarily pleased? With Nolan’s thorough protection, I’ll soon recover and return home. As long as I’m here, one day I’ll pull you down from your pedestal.”
