Chapter 14
Slightly stunned by his sudden approach, she instinctively
leaned back.
Perhaps her movement was too abrupt-she almost lost her
balance.
She subconsciously reached out and grabbed his legs.
He looked down, and their eyes locked.
Even the air froze at that second.
Meanwhile, someone knocked on the door.
She quickly loosened her grip and crouched in front of him.
“Joaquin.”
Holding Kashton’s hand, Jericho stepped inside and saw no one
but Joaquin.
Looking up, Joaquin said casually, “It’s late. To what do I owe the
pleasure, Jericho?”
Hiding under the desk, Romina listened to their conversation
carefully.
Jericho said slowly, “Kash was doing better, so I planned on
taking him home. What happened today came out of nowhere,
and I didn’t know Romina would make a scene on such an
important occasion. I wanna apologize for ruining your
homecoming dinner.”
Apologize?
Romina clenched her fingers as she heard this word.
She looked up at Joaquin’s face.
The dim yellow light somehow softened his chiseled jawline.
He curved his thin lips, saying nothing.
The family dinner was held for his homecoming, which was
indeed ruined.
“I’m sorry, Joaquin…” Jericho frowned slightly. “I should have
stopped her from making a scene. It’s such a pity that the family
dinner was ruined because of her. After all, it’s rare for all of us
to gather together like this. Who knows when we’ll have
another chance like this?”
Joaquin lifted his head and glanced at Jericho indifferently.
After several seconds, Joaquin said slowly, “Ms. Sandoval said in
front of everyone that she was framed. My suggestion? Look
into it closely. Don’t rush to blame the innocent due to
momentary haste.”
Hearing this, Romina looked at him with great disbelief.
He stared straight ahead, not casting a glance at her.
Even he believed her.
But her own husband and son, the very two men she had spent
years together with, sided with Nadine so blindly…
Jericho was also surprised at Joaquin’s words.
If he remembered correctly, it was already the second time
Joaquin had spoken up for Romina.
“Joaquin, you don’t know her. She framed Nadine three years
ago, and that’s why she was sent to prison. And today, she
actually tried to harm Kash, her own flesh and blood! You want
me to look into it? Is that really necessary? Clearly, she was the
one who did it!”
Romina couldn’t help but clench her fists.
Her nails almost dug into her palms, sending a sharp pain
through her body.
Joaquin curved his lips into a cold smile. “Oh, really?”
“That’s right, Uncle Joaquin,” Kashton echoed, pouting.
“Mommy indeed set up Nadi before. Nadi is so nice. Why would
Mommy do that to her?”
“Why do you think? Jealousy, obviously. She’s always been
petty-couldn’t stand Nadine’s existence. Even three years in
prison couldn’t soften her ruthless nature. She doesn’t deserve
to be a mother!”
Jericho raised his voice in anger.
While he was complaining to Joaquin, every word was a dig at
Romina.
She was furious.
If it were before, hearing him say this about her would have
devastated her.
But now, all she felt was anger.
It seemed her love for him was gone completely. He wasn’t even
worth her disappointment now.
She unclenched her fists.
Perhaps overcome by rage, her body instinctively moved.
The cramped space under the desk left little room, and her
elbow accidentally bumped against the hard surface.
A
“What’s that sound?” Jericho couldn’t help but tighten his grip
on Kashton’s hand. “Joaquin, sounds like it came from under
your desk.”
Joaquin looked down and glanced at Romina calmly.
She happened to look up and met his gaze.
Within just a few seconds, she lowered her head quickly and instinctively withdrew her hand, not daring to move at all.
Her heart was beating so fast that it was about to leap out of her
throat.
