“I still can’t believe that we have been sleeping in separate bedrooms ever since that skunk showed up. She knows her game so well, and she’s good at it. Wow.” Abigail kept whining in the car on our way to get dinner.
“We are sleeping in separate bedrooms because you keep nagging me non–stop. If you were able to keep your mouth shut and trust me, things would’ve been much better.” I answered as I pulled up outside the Italian
restaurant.
“She shows up here for a day and already has her dirty claws wrapped around you,” she scoffed. “It’s sickening to think that you and I were so good until she came back. You were acting different all this time for weeks because you knew that she was coming back here, didn’t you?”
“Like I said to you before, Abigail, if you have a problem with her working with me, then stop showing up at my workplace and jeopardizing my business.”
“The day you professed your love to me and proposed to me was the day you signed up to be faithful to me. I’m not going to lay back and watch a bitch trying to wreck our home. Just to make things clear, I’m not going anywhere,” she hissed.
God, I regretted everything. I wondered what I was even thinking when I thought that I could make Abigail my wife.
After we lost the baby, things changed, and we were never the same. Her true colors resurfaced sooner than I thought, and I hated stringing her along when I already knew that I was never going to commit my life to her
anymore.
But because every move that I made had a way of causing a scandal, I didn’t want our separation to cause a stare before sealing two major deals that were pending.
“If you stop for a second and think of the real reason things changed between us, you will know that it has nothing to do with Darla.”
“Really?” She shook her head. “I have done nothing but be the woman of your dreams. I’ve given you my body and warmed your bed for the past five years while Darla was gone.” [1
I turned off the engine and looked at her scoffing. “That’s the point, Abi. You are so quick at pointing out the faults of other people, but you can’t even see your own. You have made yourself believe that you’re so perfect that you are so delusional to even notice that you’re just as bad.”
She chuckled softly as she clapped her hands. “With Zara as your mother, you should be grateful that I haven’t left your ass for a better man with an innocent heart for a mother instead of that witch,” she snarled.
“You called my mother a witch?” I couldn’t believe it as I looked at her. Speechless at her audacity.
“I don’t blame Darla for failing to make your marriage work with her. Poor woman was suffocating under your Mom’s roof, and you weren’t even man enough to recognize that she was abusive and controlling. But before you get back with that bitch, I’ll show you that I’m worse than your Mom.” She said as she opened the door and hopped out of the car.
I took a moment in the car, just thinking about her words and how I was too blind to see her for who she truly was in the beginning.
I had known Abigail for years and couldn’t believe that she spoke ill of my mother and didn’t respect her.

But for the sake of peace, I decided to follow behind her to the restaurant and pretend that I didn’t hear her say all those horrible things about my mother. Just for tonight.
After getting our dinner, Abigail and I headed outside of the restaurant when I bumped into Darla at the door and splattered my spaghetti takeaway on the floor.
But she quickly walked away before I could say anything to her after Abigail decided to chime in and cause drama.
“Tell me that she’s not following you again. If this is also your plan to make a fool of me, it won’t end well for the both of you.” She darted past me and walked to the car.
“Tell your girlfriend not to be rude to people she doesn’t know next time. If I were Darla, I would’ve closed that big mouth of her with a slap,” Amelia seethed before she walked off in the direction where Darla was heading.
As much as I wanted to get inside the car and drive back home with Abigail and avoid any further drama, my heart wouldn’t let me let Darla go without any explanations.
Without a second thought, I rushed to Abigail and gave her the car keys. “Please drive home. I’ll call someone to pick me up.”
“What? Elijah, where are you going?” She asked before I scurried down the road and followed Darla without answering her.
“Amelia, can I talk with her, please? I know that you don’t approve of it, but it’s the least that I can ask at the moment.” I asked once I reached her.
“She doesn’t want to see you. If she wanted to see you, she wouldn’t have walked off like that.”
When I saw someone approaching Darla while she was trying to get inside her car, I quickly crossed the road and rushed to her side.
When the guy gave me attitude and didn’t want to leave so that I could talk with Darla, I punched him in the face from irritation, and then he walked off.
“You’re the most despicable human being that I’ve ever known. What do you want?” She seethed.
Ugh, I couldn’t help but think that she was the prettiest thing to ever exist.
I was such a dumb fool for letting her go.
“I want you.” The words slipped out of my tongue, and it was too late to take them back.
I saw a frown on her face before Amelia came and took her inside the car and drove away with her.
Before I knew it, Abigail pulled up next to me with my car, and she looked pissed.
I opened the driver’s seat door and dragged her out because I wasn’t going to let a bitch who called my mother a witch take the wheel of my car anymore.
“Hey!” She snapped as I got inside the car and closed the door.
She scoffed as she walked over to the passenger seat and got in.
“I saw you talking with her, you know.”
“I’m dropping you off at your old apartment.”
“What?”
