Chapter 3
I let out a cold laugh. “Put it down where I can see it–don’t come any closer!”
Seeing how cautious I was, a flicker of impatience flashed in Levi’s eyes. He turned his gaze to Daniela.
“Mom, what do you say? Our family’s future happiness all depends on you
now.”
At his words, tears streamed down Daniela’s face. “As long as it makes our family better, I’m not afraid.”
No sooner had she spoken than she lunged forward, impaling herself on the tip of my knife.
A sickening sound split the air as the blade plunged deep into her neck, blood gushing out in torrents.
I stood frozen, releasing my grip without thinking, my whole body trembling uncontrollably.
Shock and grief crashed over me in waves.
What on earth was in that document?
Why would she rather give up her life than let the twins stay?
Levi seized the moment, rushing over to tie me up.
As blood kept pouring from Daniela’s neck, Edward was frantic, screaming that she needed to get to a hospital.
Levi, on the other hand, was completely unmoved. “Dad, wouldn’t it be

nice to marry a couple of younger wives later?”
Hearing that, Edward hesitated on the spot.
Daniela stared at her husband and son in disbelief, her mouth opening as if to speak.
But in the end, she was powerless. Her head slumped to the side, her eyes wide open in death.
With trembling hands, Edward finally closed her unblinking eyes.
“Go on, then. We’ll honor you at home from now on,” he muttered.
For a moment, I was furious on her behalf.
“Levi, that was your mother! How could you manipulate her into sacrificing herself? You’re a monster!”
Levi grabbed my chin, sneering. “That was her own choice. If you were in my shoes, you’d do the same.”
I stared at the face I once knew so well-
Now, it was utterly foreign to me.
The selfishness at his core was more terrifying than I’d ever imagined.
Levi ordered Edward to deal with Daniela’s body, then scooped up the twins and headed for the door.
Just then, Fiona returned.
She saw Daniela’s corpse and started shaking all over, her voice trembling. “What… what happened here?”
I knew Fiona had been an accomplice in my previous life, but right now,
none of that mattered.

I shouted desperately, “Levi and Edward have lost their minds–they’re going to kill us all! Call the police, now!”
Fiona’s terror only grew. She stared at Levi and Edward in horror, then tried to run, but Edward blocked her path.
Levi stormed over and slapped me hard across the face. “Shut your filthy.
mouth!”
Then he pulled out the document, demanding that Fiona read it for herself.
“Levi, is this true?”
When he confirmed it, Fiona took the children from him with her own hands. “Let’s go, Levi. Let’s go together.”
Jeremy and Kimberly screamed and cried, reaching out for me, begging to
be held.
My heart shattered into pieces.
But all I could do was watch as they were taken farther and farther away.
I struggled to get up, only to see the document fall from Levi’s pocket.
In that instant, a flood of lost memories surged through my mind.
So this… this was why they were willing to do anything to send the children away!
