Chapter 12
“What?” David got so worked up that he nearly bumped into the guest nearby.
Alexander frowned in displeasure, thinking. The maid just mentioned Ms. Veronica Weston. Is she the other Weston heiress Grandpa wants me to marry? Didn’t she just come back from a poor village?
So why is she at home wrecking her own sister’s music room instead of trying to get along with her family? Is this out of spite and jealousy?
Hearing the crying from upstairs, Alexander was almost certain of his judgment. He snorted, “Mr. Weston, since there are issues in your household, I’ll leave you to them. I’ll take my leave. With that, he turned and walked away without looking back.
“Wait, Alexander, David hurriedly said. He chased after Alexander. But when Alexander showed no sign of staying, David stopped and turned back, rushing upstairs.
What followed was inevitably another round of chaos. But whether it was David, Linda, or Chloe, none of them gained the slightest advantage over Veronica
Acting as if nothing had happened, Veronica came downstairs after driving the three of them into fury and told the maid to have someone clean up the music room and set it up as her bedroom.
The maid, who had overheard the whole incident from downstairs, looked uneasy as she glanced upstairs.
Veronica smiled, “Don’t worry. Mr. Weston has already agreed.”
Upstairs, David heard this and nearly fumed with rage. Yet aside from shouting and losing his temper, he had no way to stop her. Mason had already made it clear that if Veronica so much as went to him and said that David’s family mistreated her, then David’s family could forget about inheriting any portion of the estate.
For the sake of money, David had no choice but to endure
David told Linda about it. She had only been putting on a show of tears, and the moment she heard his words, not a single trace of grief remained her eyes flared with seething hatred.
Linda thought, Why? My daughters and Veronica are all heiresses of the Weston family. Why does Mason refuse to even acknowledge my daughters as his granddaughters, yet protect that bumpkin he’s barely met? Are my daughters not as good as that short–lived bitch
Claudia’s kid!‘
Linda was not convinced. Her eyes shifted as an idea came to her. David, listen to me, she said, rising on tiptoes to whisper a few words into David’s car
David’s brows furrowed, his expression showing hesitation. But then he thought, That brat Veronica really is too cocky.
“She needs to be knocked down a peg and humiliated, just so she remembers that in Cloudhaven it’s our family that calls the shots and I’m the one in charge here!
Alexander left Weston Villa in a hurry and returned to the Harrington family’s villa in Cloudhaven. As soon as he walked in, Stephen couldn’t wait to ask, “Well? Did you see Ronie?”
There was a gleam in Stephen’s eyes, and his tone was full of admiration when he spoke of Veronica.
Alexander’s mood was the complete opposite. He sat down heavily, gulped a mouthful of water, and finally said, “I didn’t see the brilliant and remarkable girl you mentioned. But I did see a vile, vicious bumpkin who bullies her stepmother and sister.”
Stephen was stunned. He thought, “Are we really talking about the same person?”
At the same time, Veronica sneezed. She didn’t pay any attention to it, instead focusing on waiting for the bus at the bus stop.
She’d just received a call from Colton, who told her there would be a welcome party for her tonight at Weston Manor, and that he would come pick her up. She had come to the bus stop now to go out and get a dress.
