Chapter 10
The moment I stepped out of the ward, Jeremy shot to his feet, his expression complicated.
“How is he?”
Hearing Gaspy’s name from his lips snapped the last thread of restraint in
- me.
I grabbed him by the collar, my voice shaking with rage.
“He’s been allergic to mangoes since he was a baby!
“You almost killed him, do you understand that?”
Whatever was between Jeremy and me, I could take it.
I could take the revenge, the humiliation, and the endless torment.
But Gaspard was my bottom line.
Jeremy didn’t lash back like usual. Instead, he seemed distracted, hesitating as though holding something back. His eyes darkened,
“Gaspard isn’t your child at all.”
The blood drained from my face. That was when I noticed the medical record clutched in his hand.
His gaze locked onto mine.
“We didn’t divorce until September that year,
“Gaspard was born in November.” I kept my head down, saying nothing.

His voice rose, his hands gripping my arms and shaking me.
“Why didn’t you tell me?
“Why did you lie?”
I stared back at him, my expression flat, my heart like still water.
I had never hidden anything.
Gaspard’s medical records had always listed his real date of birth.

If Jeremy had trusted me–if he had simply looked carefully at the reports -this entire misunderstanding would never have happened.
But now, it was too late.
“None of that matters anymore.”
I pried his fingers off me one by one, my voice calm but cutting.
“Jeremy, I wish you a happy wedding in advance.”
Then, I saw the flicker of panic in his eyes.
“You… you know?”
He’d hidden it well, but word travels fast.
That day in Tribeca Villas, a few nannies huddled together, their voices
low but excited.
“Did you hear? Mr. Moreau is marrying the Severin family’s daughter.”
One of them, who had always been kind to me, spoke up in my defense.
“But what about Ms. Lennox?

“She’s been with him for years, and she still doesn’t even have a proper title.”
I wanted to ask the same thing. What exactly was I to Jeremy?
An ex–wife? A lover? A convenient target for his cruelty?

After a long pause, Jeremy finally exhaled, his voice slow and deliberate
“There’s nothing between Josephine and me. It’s just a business marriage.”
Then, without warning, he pulled me into his arms.
“It doesn’t matter.
H
“Even after I get married, we can still be together.”
I shoved him back, my chest burning with humiliation.
“Jeremy, you’re insane.
“You’re asking me to be your mistress?”
The absurdity made me want to laugh and cry at the same time.
This was the man who once cherished me above all else.
The man I had thrown everything away to protect.
And now, he was asking me to crawl into the shadows of his marriage as if it were nothing.
He frowned, genuinely confused by my reaction.
“Eloise, why do you always act so high and mighty?
“If you’d just given in earlier, I would’ve forgiven you long ago.”
