Sitting on the sofa, Katherine enjoyed her afternoon tea with a graceful pose, while Mia looked like she’d been tied to a cross behind her -stiff and stuck in place.
Maeve stood nearby and watched the scene. If Mia ever showed any signs of hurting Katherine, Maeve would step in right away.

But before Mia could get close enough, Maeve’s hand clamped down on her shoulder, as fast as lightning.

By now, Mia knew for sure that Katherine was just messing with her on purpose.
After putting on an act for so long and taking all of Katherine’s humiliation, Mia couldn’t hold it in anymore. She shouted, “Get off me. Let go.”
Mia struggled with all her might, but to her shock, Maeve’s strength was downright scary. No matter how Mia fought, Maeve’s holding her down never budged.
Katherine looked at Mia, snorting. “Stop struggling. A pampered lady like you can’t get Maeve off you.”

Maeve had done all kinds of heavy work over the years. She could lift a big flowerpot without breaking a sweat, let alone holding down someone like Mia, who was all looks and no muscle.
Katherine stood up, walked over, and jabbed a finger at Mia’s forehead. “Mia, seems like your life is too comfy, huh? Got nothing but crap in your head. I can see right through your tricks with even a glance.”
She bent down, smiling in a way that made Mia’s skin crawl. “Your mother wants to have my dad’s child, doesn’t she? Listen, as long as I’m breathing, you can forget it.”

Mia’s heart skipped a beat. She stared at Katherine in shock and thought, ‘How does she even know that? Is that why she suddenly stays away from me?

Just then, the doorbell rang. The tension in the living room broke. Katherine clicked her tongue and leaned back onto the sofa.
She thought it had to be Ethan. Ever since she left the hospital, he had come every day for a routine checkup.
Maeve let go of Mia and went to get the door. As she released Mia, she shot Min a sharp glare that said she’d better behave.
