with Charles’s mother? She’s been hospitalized for nearly two weeks, Mia said, walking toward Sandra Miller’s hospital room from the underground garage while speaking on the phone with Miranda, her tone clearly impatient.

Mia continued, “There hasn’t been a word out there, and they’re keeping everything under wraps. Why do I have to come all the way here?”

As she spoke, Mia kept her hand over her mouth, careful not to inhale any germs.

“You still haven’t even visited Katherine after I told you to. And now you’re making such a fuss over a simple visit to the hospital?” Miranda snapped.

She was still upset about Richard Lawson ignoring her calls. Hearing her daughter’s endless questions made her barely keep her emotions in check.

Mia, still afraid of Miranda, fell silent for a moment before muttering, “Alright. I’ll make the appointment with Katherine after I leave the hospital

After hanging up, Mia immediately dialed Katherine’s number, wanting to see if Katherine had taken her off the blocked list.

Mia thought, I’m the wronged one here. It’s not that I haven’t been trying to contact Katherine. That two–faced wretch actually dared to block me.

However, the cold beeping of the phone ringing on the other end turned her anger into a joke. Her face went blank for a second, and she suddenly raised her hand.

But just as Mia was about to throw her phone, she caught a glimpse of a face flash past the elevator doors.

Mia thought. That’s the maid from Derrick’s place. I recognize that face. But wasn’t she supposed to be at Riverbend Manor watching over Katherine? Why is she here at the hospital? Could it be…”

Min quickly jogged to the elevator and watched the numbers on the display rise, thinking. Could it be that Katherine tried to kill herself again? No wonder she blocked me and wouldn’t see me.

Maybe Derrick has locked her up. She must’ve had her phone taken away, which is why she can’t answer my calls.

Mia instinctively ignored the reason she left Riverbend Manor that day. She though, at that time, Katherine was just putting on a show

Mia immediately found an excuse for Katherine, a satisfied expression appearing on her face. She watched the elevator numbers reach the top floor and then raised her eyebrows, stepping inside.

However, Mia got off one floor later and walked toward the emergency exit instead. She thought, ‘Derrick’s been keeping a close eye on Katherine. He might have bodyguards stationed outside. If the elevator doors open and I’m right there, Ill be exposed.”

Katherine reached out to take Derrick’s hand. “It’s fine. It’s only been a week. Even a cold doesn’t get better that quickly she reassured him, though the forced smile on her face made her look painfully fragile.

Maeve opened the thermal box and ladled our some freshly made chicken noodle soup, the surface covered with a thick layer of basil

She spoke, “Mrs. Graham, didn’t you say you wanted chicken noodle soup yesterday? This is freshly made and still hot. Have some. It’ll help with your recovery.

Derrick sat by the bed, taking the bowl of soup from Maeve’s hands. He scooped up a spoonful and held it out to Katherine. “Open your mouth,” he said..

Katherine glanced at Derrick’s cold expression and sighed. She then reluctantly opened her mouth and took a spoonful.

After half a bowl, Katherine turned her head away, frowning. “I don’t want any more.”

Her hand rested on her belly as she tried to swallow. A wave of nausea hit her, but it wasn’t the usual queasiness–it felt more like something was pressing against her stomach, making her want to throw up.

Katherine hadn’t felt much before. It was probably in the past week that the baby had grown a bit organs was becoming all too real.

As Derrick saw her in pain, his expression darkened even further, his gaze cold as if he were ready to kill someone, and the target was nothing less than a tiny embryo.

The door was slightly ajar. Mia, covering her mouth, stood there with a look of disbelief.

She had come up through the emergency exit, not finding any bodyguards along the way. She searched room by room until she overheard talk of the baby’s position and fetal development.

Mia thought, ‘Katherine’s pregnant? No way. She hates Derrick so much that even living under the same roof with him disgusts her. How could she possibly sleep with him, let alone have his child? She must’ve been forced into this

Mia’s hands trembled slightly as she continued to convince herself, pondering, That’s right, Katherine must’ve been forced. Maybe she is even trying to kill herself right now or desperately trying to send me a message for help.

Before anyone could catch her, Mia quietly slipped away. By the time she reached Sandra’s room, Mia still looked dazed, as if something big had just happened to her.

“Mia, are you not feeling well?” Sandra asked, but when there was no reply, her expression shifted to one of indifference. “You’re at the hospital. Why don’t you get checked?”

Mia shook her head in a daze. “No, I’m fine.” She then stood up. “Since you’re okay, I’ll head back now. I’ll come see you another day.” Without waiting for Sandra to say anything, Mia left abruptly.

As she watched Mia leave, Sandra’s expression darkened, her eyes narrowing as she muttered, “What a manipulative opportunist

Sandra thought, They’re all here to enjoy my misery now that I’ve ended up in the hospital because of that mistress

Mia hurried home, telling Miranda everything she had heard, “Mom, what should we do? We can’t let this baby be born.”

Mia had been thinking a lot on her way home. She thought, If Katherine decides to compromise with Derrick just because of this baby. what should we do? In the Lawson family, my mom and I are outsiders.

‘Even Richard has never intended to give us a share of the Lawson family’s fortune. If Katherine has this baby, Richard might even give his shares or whatever to the child. After all these years, we’d be left with nothing again.
