Chapter 15
Chapter 15
Derrick remained silent. For a moment, Katherine felt like she couldn’t even hear his breathing.
After a long time, Derrick finally gritted his teeth and asked, “Weren’t you the one who hated this baby so much before? Didn’t you you’d rather die than keep it? Can’t you try to find that feeling again?”
You swear
Katherine couldn’t help but laugh, “Derrick, you really think too highly of me. I can’t do it, and neither o
can you.
She took a deep breath, her hand resting on Derrick’s face, cradling his chiseled jaw. “Listen to me this time. I’m confident that both the baby and I will be fine.”
Katherine didn’t know why this was happening now, but in her previous life, despite going through hell and back, both she and the baby came out okay. Even if there was a butterfly effect, the law of conservation remained unchanged.
“You know it. You can’t control my decision,” Katherine said.
They locked eyes. Derrick saw the resolve and determination in Katherine’s eyes and knew there was nothing he could do to change her mind.
Fine, he sighed, finally giving in. “You said it, you’ll be fine.
Katherine’s tension finally eased. She weakly smiled at Derrick, “Yes, I said it. Don’t worry.” She extended her pinky, “Pinky swear. No lying.”
Derrick stared at her for a moment before hooking his pinky with hers, his forehead gently touching hers. “Pinky swear.”
Then, he added, “If you lie to me, whether you go to heaven or hell, I won’t let you go.”
Katherine froze, remembering how she and Derrick ended up in her previous life. She couldn’t help but laugh softly. She thought, ‘As expected. Derrick is a man of his word. In my previous life, he really did die with me.”
Derrick changed his mind after merely an hour, and Harper wasn’t surprised at all. After all, she’d seen this many times before, most people regretted their decisions.
Harper said, “Mrs. Graham must continue the pregnancy–preserving medication, and acupuncture should be added to help adjust her condition. Since Mrs. Graham is still early in the pregnancy, it shouldn’t cause too much harm to her body.”
Afterward, Harper wrote prescriptions and scheduled follow–up treatments, leaving Derrick to spend the entire morning in her office.
Meanwhile, Katherine had a hearty meal and then slept soundly. When she opened her eyes, she saw her husband’s handsome face.
“Derrick Katherine had developed the habit of calling his name the moment she woke up. She reached out and pinched his face. “When can we leave the hospital?”
Derrick took her hand in his, his gaze lingering a little longer on the bruise on her hand, left by the IV. “You probably won’t be discharged yet. You need to be observed for a few more days
Katherine frowned instinctively. In her previous life, she had spent quite a bit of time in the hospital before she died. The smell of disinfectant that lingered everywhere in this place brought back too many unpleasant memories of life slipping away.
Derrick always knew how to handle Katherine. Seeing her frown, he gently placed his hand on her stomach. “If you want to save the baby, you need to listen to the doctor’s instructions.”
Katherine furrowed her brows and reluctantly agreed, “Fine. I’ll stay a bit longer.”
After they decided to keep the baby, everyone around them became just as concerned.
Maeve–sent meals to the hospital three times a day. Ethan picked up a lot of care techniques as well. Although he wasn’t a professional obstetrician, he could handle basic check–ups. As for the more specialized care, that still had to be handled by experts.
Katherine also got a firsthand look at pregnancy–preserving acupuncture. The needles were as long as her palm, and Katherine felt like they could be stuck into her stomach and come out her back
“Are you sure these long needles won’t pierce through me? Katherine clung to Derrick’s arm, swallowing nervously.
She was genuinely scared. Regular shots were terrifying enough, but these needles were enormous. Suddenly, everything in front of

Katherine went dark.
Derrick’s hand covered her eyes. His voice was low and deep, and there was a tension in it that matched Katherine’s. “If you don’t look you won’t be scared. It’ll be over quickly.”
Katherine fell silent, but she gripped Derrick’s hand even tighter.
She thought. This stuff seems even scarier when I don’t look. Because I can’t see it, my mind keeps imagining it. A needle that long is going into my body.”
Just thinking about it made Katherine feel like her hair was about to stand on end.
“Lie down.” The one doing the acupuncture was an elderly man with graying hair. He wore reading glasses and lifted Katherine’s shirt at
the hem.
There was already a hard lump the size of a fist on her lower abdomen. The first silver needle was inserted near her stomach. Once the correct acupoint was found, he slowly twisted it in.
“Ow, that hurts, Katherine couldn’t help but cry out, biting down on Derrick’s arm.
Her teeth clenched tight, but Derrick quickly relaxed, making it easier for Katherine to bite down.
The long needle slowly sank deeper into Katherine’s body, though it wasn’t completely in yet. Half of it still stuck out. Then came the second and third needles,
Katherine clung to Derrick’s arm like she was holding on to a lifeline, not letting go for a second. By the end, her arms felt like they were about to break, her body drenched in cold sweat.
An hour later, the traditional medicine doctor stood up, patting his waist. “I’ll come back in half an hour to remove the needles. If you feel uncomfortable, press the bell.”
Just before he left, he turned and reminded, “Don’t move during this time. Don’t eat anything, and no drinking either.”
Derrick looked down at Katherine, checking on her. Maeve nodded and ushered the doctor out, saying, “Thank you for your hard work.”
Derrick pushed Katherine’s damp hair away from her face and kissed her forehead, his kiss full of tenderness and endless concern.
If those needles had been in him, he wouldn’t have even blinked. But they were in the one he loved, and it broke his heart.
Katherine exhaled, her chest heaving more intensely. In the final seconds of the acupuncture, she had been holding her breath to get through it. She even thought at one point that she might have suffocated from it. Luckily, it ended fairly quickly.
Katherine lifted her neck, instinctively wanting to look at her belly, but Derrick leaned down and kissed her eyelid.
She automatically shut her eyes. “What are you doing?”
“Don’t look.” Derrick pulled back slightly, but then lowered his head again, continuing to kiss her, trailing down her nose and kissing the fine beads of sweat on her skin.
Maeve, returning after seeing the doctor off, happened to walk in on this scene and couldn’t help but smile. She thought, ‘Finally, these two are starting to act like a real couple.
But when Maeve saw the disturbing array of needles sticking into Katherine’s stomach, she couldn’t help but muse, “They’ve really been through a lot. It’s only after enduring this kind of hardship that they’re starting to understand how precious they are to each other.
