“I am insane,” he laughed, a wild, terrifying sound. “You drove me insane! If I can’t have you, no one can! You promised you’d be with me forever. Let’s make that happen.”
He flicked open a lighter. He was going to take us both out, right here, on the steps of the police station.
But as he lunged for me, two figures materialized from the shadows. My new security detail. They tackled him, extinguished the flame, and dragged him back inside.
This time, I pressed charges. For everything.
The divorce was finalized while he was in prison. His only request was to see me one last time. I refused.
