Chapter 9
The sight of the breathtakingly beautiful Veronica filled the girls with a mix of threat, discomfort, and jealousy. When they remembered that Veronica came from a poor village, their jealousy turned into contempt.
They looked at her with that smug, dismissive air that screamed she wasn’t worth their time. The way they looked down at Veronica was as if she were nothing but trash,
Then, Grace, who had been the first to greet Veronica, sat smiling at her. At first glance, Grace looked as if she were truly treating Veronica like family.
Veronica couldn’t hold back and let out a sudden laugh before the girls on the solas could even speak. Her clear, pleasant laugh carried no trace of malice, yet it made the ones on the sofas feel the humiliation of being belittled and ignored.
Grace started playing the victim, her face sorrowful, looking pitifully at Veronica. “Veronica, do you not like my friends? I’m sorry. They just have never seen someone from a poor village and
Grace suddenly seemed startled by something, cutting her words short, then lifted her head with tearful eyes to stare at Veronica timidly.
That pitiful, frightened act only made Veronica feel bored and fed up.
She thought, ‘Grace is already a grownup now and she’s still using tricks that only little kids use. So pathetic.
A gleam of clarity flashed in Veronica’s eyes as she gave a sweet smile. “So now you all see the difference between the daughter of a wife and the daughter of a mistress?”
The girls on the sofas gasped in shock. Grace lifted her head, her eyes rimmed red. This time, real tears welled up,
Veronica’s eyes glimmered with a smile as she turned to look at the girls sitting on the sofas, all of whom looked at her with resistance.
She continued, “I’m sure everyone wants to know why the heiress of the Weston family was sent to a poor village for eighteen years, right? The story is truly fascinating. Let me
“What’s going on here?” Linda’s voice cut Veronica off. During the moment when Grace had provoked Veronica, Linda had been hiding. But now she came forward gracefully with a smile on her face, Ronie, welcome home. You must be exhausted, aren’t you?”
Veronica shook her head. Im not tired. I can still tell the story from eighteen years ago-
Landa chuckled as she interrupted Veronica again, turning to the servants nearby, “Why don’t you take Veronica to her room to rest?”
Veronica lifted her hand to stop the servants who were stepping forward. She then moved closer to the group. “Ladies, you’ve never heard this story, have you? Let me tell you-
“Someone take Veronicato her room so she can get some rest. Hurry. Can’t you hear she’s tired and rambling?” Linda was on the verge of losing control.
To Linda, what had happened eighteen years ago was a secret she never wanted to mention for the rest of her life. She thought, ‘How did this brat Veronica find out?
Hidden from view, she shot a vicious glare at Veronica, only to meet her amused gaze.
For some reason, a chill ran down Linda’s spine. She quickly signaled to Grace to usher these young heiresses out. As Veronica watched Linda and Grace fussing to please thein, her simile widened.
Veronica rose on her toes and waved to the heiresses who had been forced out before they had enjoyed enough of the show.
She chuckled, “Goodbye, ladies. Whenever you want to hear the story of how a mistress climbed the social ladder eighteen years ago, make sure to contact me. See you.”
Hearing Veronica’s voice from behind, Linda couldn’t hold back her temper. She turned and marched back, demanding, “Ronie, what did you mean by that just now? You got an issue with me?”
Veronica shook her head.
Landa’s expression softened slightly. But just as she was about to feel relieved, she heard Veronica say, “Not just an issue. I’ve got a problem with everything about you

Linda was speechless. But Veronica just yawned and turned around, muttering, “I’m so tired. Where’s my room? Veronica folded her hands behind her head and started walking upstairs
“Stop right there. Where are you going? Your room is on the first floor. What are you doing trying to go upstairs?” Chloe shouted.
She had been held back by Linda before and wasn’t allowed to speak. Now that Chloe finally had the chance, she jumped out just as Veronica was about to go upstairs, blocking her path
Veronica stopped and looked back at Linda
Linda was sharp. Though Veronica had just mocked her, she had already regained her composure, smiling, “Ronie, there really aren’t any other rooms on the second floor. Could you put up with staying on the first floor for a while?”
Veronica raised her brows. The storage room?”
Chloe blurted out, “You should be glad there’s even a storage
e room for you to stay in.”
Linda forced a smile. “Don’t worry. There’s nothing stored in there. The servants already cleaned it out.”
Veronica nodded. “So do I also need to wake up early every morning and prepare breakfast for all of you?”
Chloe sneered, “Who would dare eat your cooking?”
Linda responded, “Ronie, if you want to do nice things for me and your father, that would be-
“Who the hell do you think you are?” Veronica cut her off, looking at Linda with a half–smile.
Linda was at a loss for words. She had already cursed Veronica countless times inwardly. But because of the image she usually kept up and Mason’s authority, she didn’t dare go too far with Veronica.
Linda thought, But since Veronica has moved in, won’t she have to listen to me sooner or later?
Linda’s calculations were running wild, so much so that she didn’t hear Chloe calling out to her in time. By the time Linda reacted, she realized the music room on the second floor that belonged to her two daughters had been smashed to pieces.
Chloe stood to the side with her hair in disarray, wailing loudly.
Veronica clapped the dust off her hands, glanced with some disdain at the mess all over the room, and said, “Linda, since you didn’t have time to prepare a room for me, I had no choice but to prepare one myself”
Linda rolled her eyes, furious. She thought, That piano cost me a fortune. I bought it for my daughters, and now it’s been destroyed?”
Linda remarked, “Veronica, if you have a problem, take it out on me. Don’t go wrecking the things in this house. Your dad doesn’t bust his back making money just so you can trash it.”
With just a few words, she made Veronica out to be someone who had no respect or care for her elders.
Fortunately, Veronica had no intention of caring about such so–called “elders. To her, they weren’t elders at all.
Veronica ignored Linda’s words. She stepped onto the black–and–white piano keys, frowning as she considered how to arrange this room into a bedroom.
Tm going to kill you, you bumpkin. I’ll kill you, Chloe screamed.
Veronica snorted and shifted her body slightly to the side, Chloe lunged forward and, missing her target, crashed headfirst into the wall with a dull thud.
Chloe burst into tears again, and Linda rushed over to comfort her. For a moment, the second floor was in complete chaos. Downstairs, David had just walked into the house with a guest after being delayed, only to hear the sorrowful cries of his wife and daughter. He didn’t even bother entertaining the guest and instead stopped a maid to ask what had happened.
The maid answered, “Ms. Veronica Weston smashed Ms. Chloe Weston’s music room.”
