In an instant, the scene descended into chaos.]]
Taking advantage of the confusion, I kicked Tyler hard in the groin. As he howled in pain, I slipped away to a corner to watch the show unfold.]
Jessica struggled against the middle–aged woman’s grip, her face turning red with effort, but she couldn’t break free from the woman’s calloused, work–hardened hands.[]
A few more red handprints bloomed on her cheeks.[]
The woman kept yelling as she hit her.
“A whole million dollars! That was my dad’s life savings, his coffin money, and a little girl like you scammed it all away!“]]
“You don’t even look that old. How can you be so vicious!“]
“If you don’t return every last cent today, I swear I won’t let you off the hook!“]
At that moment, a wave of shock rippled through the guests.[]
“What’s going on? How did a perfectly nice engagement party turn into this?“[]
“I really didn’t see this plot twist coming. That girl was acting so arrogant a minute ago. Turns out this was the big reveal.“]
In a brief pause in the woman’s tirade, Jessica finally broke free. Panting heavily, she shouted back.]
“You old hag, what are you talking about? All my money was a gift from my billionaire father–in–law to his future daughter–in–law.“]
She finished with a cold laugh.]
“Oh, I get it now. The billionaire’s method for finding a daughter–in–law is certainly unconventional. You must have helped him up, too, right?”
“It’s just a shame you were too. old and didn’t get picked, so now you’re trying this scheme to blackmail me.“]
“If you keep this up, once my future father–in–law and fiancé arrive, they’ll skin you alive!“]
Jessica’s followers, who had initially backed away, regained their confidence at her words and became bossy again.]
“Ma’am, you can’t just make accusations with no proof. Watch out, or we’ll call the cops on you for fraud.“[]
“Yeah, at your age, still running scams? You probably saw how big Jessica’s engagement party was and to cash in, didn’t you?“]
The woman was so enraged by their comments that she let out a bitter laugh, the finger she pointed at Jessica
“I’m the scammer? We’ll see who’s really scamming who.“]

It was a family portrait.]]
Jessica glanced at it, froze, then snatched the phone for a closer look.]
In the center of the photo was the very same “billionaire” she had helped, and standing right behind him was the woman in front of her.
Her hand clenched the phone so tightly that its edges dug red marks into her skin.[]
A classmate who leaned in to see the photo burst out laughing.
“I knew it. There’s no way someone like you, Jessica, could have such dumb luck.“[]
“So you scammed an old man out of his persion just to play rich. You’re not just vain, you have no conscience!“]
Hearing this, Jessica waved her hands helplessly, muttering in disbelief.[]
“Fake? Impossible, The bank card he gave me had an ‘S‘ on it. The billionaire’s last name is Sterling.”
“And you can’t fake those luxury cars and mansions.”
The next second, as if something clicked, she laughed out loud.[]
She threw the woman’s phone to the ground and sneered.[]
“Lady, your Photoshop skills are terrible. You really think you can scam a million dollars with a single, poorly edited photo?“]
The woman’s eyes went wide, and she glared at Jessica, breathing heavily with rage.]]
Jessica, however, gave her a dismissive glance, interpreting the woman’s fury as the frustration of being exposed.[]
Seeing Jessica’s attitude, the woman exploded again, grabbing her by the hair and pulling.
“You little brat! You insult me and smash my phone! If you don’t give me back my million dollars and pay for my phone today, I’ll show you who’s going to skin who alive!“]
The crowd backed away, some looking worried, others clearly enjoying the drama.
But no one made a move to intervene.
Just then, an old man walked in, leaning on a cane.]]
Looking at the chaos, he tapped his cane firmly on the floor.
“What is all this commotion? Look at the time! Why haven’t we started yet!“[]
The sound stopped Jessica and the woman from fighting.[]
Both of thein walked towards the old man with looks of pleasant surprise.[]
“Dad!”
