Chapter 2
I picked up the paper and looked at it – an organ donation consent form.
Even though his mother wasn’t technically my mom, my expression turned ice cold.
“Don’t you know she was religious? She believed in coming into this world whole and leaving it whole.”
“I’m not agreeing to any donation!”
The second I finished talking, Lily let out this obnoxious giggle.
“Oh
my God, it’s the 21st century! How are people still this superstitious?”
“If you ask me, your mom must’ve done some really messed up stuff to get cancer and die like that.”
“I mean, why didn’t anyone else get cancer? Why just your mom?”
Richard laughed along, not even a hint of shame on his face.
“Emma, why don’t you let your mom do some good while her body’s still useful? Maybe she’ll get lucky in her next life!”
“It’s like butchering a pig – the fresher the better. Wait too long and it’s all wasted.”
Even if the woman lying there wasn’t her mother, show some damn respect for the dead.
How could a doctor talk like this?!
I was seeing red, screaming:
“Isn’t she YOUR mother?! Do you have any conscience at all?!”
“There’s no way in hell I’m agreeing to this!”
I turned to storm out, but he grabbed me.
Richard’s grip was so tight I thought he’d snap my wrist. He raised his other hand threateningly:
“Ungrateful little bitch! I tried being nice, but you just won’t listen!
I stared him down with steely eyes.
“Richard, you want to get physical with me?! My parents will destroy you!”
Before I could say another word, he slapped me hard across the face.
Stars exploded behind my eyes.
“Oh, so daddy’s money makes you special?”
“Always throwing your rich parents in my face like I’m some kind of pushover!”
He forced my hand to sign the donation papers.
Then he shoved me to the ground.
I struggled to lift my head, staring at Richard in complete disbelief.

Chapter 2
This man who used to refuse to even raise his voice at me had actually hit me?!
Lily immediately rushed to cradle his hand.
“Dr. Richard, don’t get upset! Don’t hurt your hand!”
Richard instantly dropped the rage act, scared he might frighten his precious little student.
“I’m not angry. That trash isn’t worth it.”
“Come on, let’s go handle the body.”
Lily’s eyes lit up with an idea.
“But Dr. Richard, don’t you have another surgery today? You forgot!”
“Why don’t you go rest up? I’ll handle the body prep – let me show you what I’ve learned!”
Once Richard left, Lily casually pulled back the white sheet covering the body.
She grabbed a bone saw and sliced right into his mother’s skull.
“Ugh, the brain’s all shriveled up. Can’t use this for specimens.”
Then she gouged out the eyeballs.
“Blind old hag. These corneas are useless too.”
His mother’s face was instantly mutilated beyond recognition.
She started cutting open the torso, tossing organs around like garbage.
The whole time she was taking photos to send to Richard.
His voice messages were full of praise.
“Our Lily is so brave! Not scared at all.”
“First time handling a body, you gotta be bold about it. Emma’s mom was useless anyway, so at least she’s good for practice now!”
All at once, I couldn’t help but gag.
Lily looked at me with that sickly sweet smile:
“Your mom was just too old. Nothing on her was worth salvaging.”
“But Emma, I have to cut everything open to see what’s usable, right? It’s all standard procedure – don’t take it personally.”
I took a deep breath.
Of course I wouldn’t take it personally.
Richard – her own son – was cheering her on. What business was it of mine?
But now that I knew what Richard really was, there was no way I could just pretend everything was fine and keep living with him.
Who knows? Maybe someday he’d actually go after my parents!
I quickly snatched Lily’s phone and spoke each word clearly:
