Chapter 7
Jaxon didn’t come back for several days.[]
Riley could only see him in Sophia’s Instagram stories–pictures of him feeding her soup, walking with her, gently stroking her hair…]
Each photo was like a knife stabbing into Riley’s heart.]]
The day she was discharged, Jaxon finally showed up, saying he wanted to take her to Sophia’s birthday party.]]
At the party, crystal chandeliers sparkled brilliantly, champagne towers reached toward the ceiling. Everyone said this party cost seven figures and was personally planned by Jaxon for Sophia.]]
“I heard Jaxon’s gift is worth a million dollars!“]
“He really goes all out for Sophia…“]]
Riley stood in the corner listening to the gossip, watching Jaxon personally put a diamond necklace around Sophia’s neck.
“How did you know I always wanted this?” Sophia asked in delight.]
Jaxon smiled, his voice incredibly gentle: “Because I remember everything you like.“[]
Below the stage, Sophia’s friends shot Riley provocative looks: “See that? This party, this necklace–that’s a level you could never reach.”
“If you had any sense, you’d leave Jaxon alone. You’re nowhere near good enough for him.“]
Riley gripped her glass tighter, her nails almost cutting into her palm: “It’s not that I’m not good enough for him. He’s not good enough for me.“]
The girls burst into laughter like they’d heard the funniest joke ever.
Riley ignored them and turned to leave the ballroom.]
The night breeze was cool. She took a deep breath, trying to calm her churning emotions.]
Suddenly, a drunk man blocked her path.[]
“Hey there, sweetie, all alone?“]
Riley stepped back, her voice cold: “Get out of my way.“[]
The man staggered, finally getting a clear look at her face. When he saw those thick–rimmed glasses, disgust flashed across his features: “Damn, thought you were hot. Just another ugly nerd!“[]
He leered at her body and moved closer with a sleazy grin: “But you’ve got a nice body…“[]
Riley struggled desperately, but the man slapped her to the ground![]
“Stop acting all high and mighty!”

Chapter 7
Just as the man was about to assault her, a dark figure rushed over and punched him to the ground![]
“You’re DEAD!”
Jaxon’s voice was ice–cold as his fists rained down like hammers until the man’s face was bloody. Only then did he stop and have security drag the guy away.
He turned to help Riley up, his face full of concern: “Why didn’t you scream for me when you were in trouble?“]
Riley looked at his worried expression and felt only sadness.[]
Would screaming have helped?]]
In your heart, I always come second to Sophia Rain.[]
Seeing Riley’s silence, Jaxon thought she was badly hurt. His frown deepened and his tone softened: “Hold on, I’ll get you some medicine.”
He turned and hurried away, his footsteps echoing down the hallway.
Riley forced herself up from the ground. Her knees and arms were scraped and burning, but she didn’t want to stay here anymore. She leaned against the wall and slowly made her way toward the exit.]
Just as she reached the entrance, Sophia blocked her path.[]
“What, think Jaxon saving you once means he actually cares about you?” Sophia sneered, her eyes full of contempt, “Stop dreaming. You two aren’t even from the same world. Break up with him already.“[]
Riley didn’t want to deal with her drama and tried to step around her.[]
Sophia hadn’t expected to be completely ignored. Furious, she reached out and grabbed Riley’s wrist: “I said STOP!“[]
Riley instinctively jerked away, but Sophia suddenly stumbled and lost her balance, falling straight toward the staircase![]
In her panic, she grabbed onto Riley’s clothes, dragging both of them down the stairs!
CRASH!
The loud noise drew everyone’s attention. Jaxon came running back with the medicine to find this scene-
Sophia was on the ground with a scraped knee, while Riley had also been pulled down, her arms covered in bloody scratches.]
His face went pale as he rushed forward–but he helped Sophia up first: “What the hell happened?!“]
