Chapter 6
Thanks to the 400cc of blood from that kind stranger, her daughter’s life was saved.
I
The irony was brutal
Her own father, hoarding the entire blood supply, refused to spare a single drop for his daughter, while a complete stranger quietly donated blood and left without even leaving his name.[]
Color slowly returned to Dawn’s cheeks, and her little mouth began to instinctively search for milk.]
The nanny, watching the baby, softly voiced a concern that had been troubling her.
“Ma’am, something feels wrong I’m always so careful with the baby, I never let anything sharp near her.“]
But the doctor said the wound was from a razor blade… she was in her crib the whole time…”
A chill went down Sophie’s spine. She rushed home to investigate.
Tucked into the folds of the velvet crib sheet were several sharp razor blades, stained with her daughter’s blood.
Sophie’s mind went blank with a roar of white noise.[]
Matthew had bought this crib during her recovery period after the birth.]
He never paid attention to such things, just told his assistant to “buy the most expensive one.“[]
And Monica was the one who handled the purchase.]]
The blades must have been hidden by her.[]
A wave of cold dread washed over Sophie, leaving her shivering ||
Monica had tried to kill her daughter. Did Matthew know?
And even if he did, would he do anything about it?
No one could answer her questions.
Sophie hugged her daughter tightly, curling up in the corner of the sofa. She closed her eyes and whispered, “Don’t be afraid, Dawn. Mama won’t let anyone hurt you ever again.“[]
Thankfully, in just two days, she and her daughter would be starting a new life.[]
When Matthew returned from his business trip, he immediately launched into an attack. “Sophie, you’ve been so childish lately!”
“I’m gone for a few days, and you go and make a scene at the hospital? Have you even considered my reputation?”
Sophie felt a chill run through her.
Matthew glanced at the sleeping baby in her arms, his frown deepening. “And using our daughter to get attention? I’m so disappoin-
“Matthew, we’re over.” Sophie cut him off, her voice like ice.
Matthew froze, then gripped her arm tightly.
“Over? Sophie, we’ve known each other our whole lives! We have over a decade of history! How can you make such a big deal out of nothing!”
He had the audacity to bring up their years together?
Pain pricked at Sophie’s heart. She raised her voice. “Didn’t you say on the phone that Monica is your wife and Joseph is your son?”
Matthew’s eyes darted away, a flicker of guilt on his face.[]
I
“That was an emergency! Everyone at that hospital knows the ‘Mrs. Wilson‘ name. If I had told the truth, they might have listened to you and refused to give Joseph the blood he needed!”
For a heart–wrenching moment, Sophie was about to reveal that they had no legal marriage, but his next words left her speechless.
“I get it now. You’re jealous of Monica.” Matthew said, narrowing his eyes with a look of certainty.]
“You know I only love you, but you’re so jealous you’re using our daughter to compete for my affection?”
“Just because she gave birth to a son and you had a daughter, you decided to cause trouble, is that it?“]
Before Sophie could argue, his phone rang.
Matthew glanced at the caller ID, then tossed a “Stay home and think about what you’ve done. Don’t come to the office,” over his shoulder as he rushed out.
Sophie fought to suppress the rage boiling in her chest.
Her marriage certificate with Matthew was fake, meaning she had no legal grounds to sue Monica for a share of their marital
assets.
But even so, she would not let them take a single penny of what was rightfully hers.
Sophie meticulously reviewed her shares again, planning to contact other stakeholders for a low price transfer.]
But just as she arrived at the office, the nanny called.
“Ma’am, you have to come homel Quick!”
“A woman claiming to be Mr. Wilson’s assistant just barged in with a child! She said… she said Mr. Wilson himself gave her permission! We couldn’t stop them
