This apartment complex was pretty old.[]
The soundproofing wasn’t great.[]
Because of that, Declan and I had moved our bedroom to the other side.
But I never expected the noise from next door to be this loud through just one wall.[]
I felt lost.
After all, I’d been wrong twice before…]
Sure enough, within a few minutes of my hesitation, Declan came home.[]
His footsteps were light.]
He stood in the bedroom doorway.]
Seeing I wasn’t asleep, he looked relieved:]
“Marcus had too much to drink.“]
Declan explained unprompted:[]
“I helped them clean up, then came home.“[]
As he spoke, he pulled off his shirt.]
Looking at his still lean, sexy waist and abs, I didn’t rush over to hug him and act cute like I used to.]
Instead, I gave a flat “oh” and asked the question Declan most wanted to hear:
“Are they living together now?”
Seeing my calm tone, his tense body visibly relaxed.]
He smiled:
“Yeah, they’re still in the honeymoon phase.“]
With that, Declan casually asked when my next prenatal appointment
After brushing him off, I went to the living room.
Once Declan was in the shower, I went to the study and started updating my
résumé.
When Declan woke up, I was still sleeping.

He didn’t see his favorite breakfast waiting on the table like usual.]
He seemed pissed.]]
From brushing his teeth and washing his face on, he deliberately kicked chairs and stools, making them clatter loudly.]
I pretended not to hear.[]
Lying in bed, I touched my belly.[]
My emotions were complicated.[]
But I hadn’t wavered.]]
I couldn’t let momentary weakness turn this child into my burden.]
Besides, its father was such a selfish, horny bastard.
Once I had this baby, I’d never be able to cut ties with Declan completely.
While I was lost in thought, I suddenly got a text from Jenna.[]
After sending me nine photos in a row, she taunted me without any attempt to hide it:]
[After he went to that birthing class with you at the hospital, he came back saying just thinking about a baby coming out of there… that bloody scene gave him nightmares just imagining it.[]
[Sophia, what good does being young do you? Everyone was young once. The point is you have no clue what men actually want.
[You know what? Declan loves it when I wear that tight black lace dress. Once in the parking garage, he called me and we did it in the car–didn’t even have time to take the dress off…]]
The ellipsis left little to the imagination.[]
I calmly opened each photo.]

Every single one showed Declan’s handsome sleeping face.
In several, Jenna had deliberately exposed half her chest, pressed against him.
Fighting back disgust, I carefully saved them all and screen–recorded everything.]
After a while, Jenna sent another message:
[You have no idea how wild I’ve trained Declan to be.]

If this had been me a few days ago, receiving this kind of provocation, I probably would’ve lost it completely and charged over there to tear her hair out, screaming hysterically.[]
But now, my heart was dead.]
