Chapter 7
But the pain I expected never came. When I opened my eyes, I saw Marvin staring at me, shocked.
“Eleanor, you’re protecting him like this… Have you fallen in love with him?
“Didn’t you use to love me?”
I gave him a bitter smile and spoke softly, “Mr. Berman, what made you think that I’d fall for someone who locked me up for three years and made my life a living hell?
“I’ve been living just fine without you. If you truly care about me, then please let me go.”
I stared at him with fear and anger. There was no more love or longing in
my eyes
my eyes.
Marvin stepped back twice. The proud heir of the Berman family looked like a lost dog, crushed by only a few simple words.
Ethan and I hugged tightly, bruised and battered, but in that moment, it felt like we had built a warm space just for us.
And Marvin wasn’t part of it
of it anymore.
He looked unsure, like he didn’t know how to keep me or how to win me back.
Then his expression changed, as if he had a sudden idea.
“Eleanor… are you still upset because of that child?
“He came at the wrong time, but if you still want one…
“Come back to me. We can have another, even more if you want.”
He was trapped in his own thoughts.
He imagined that if the child had lived, he would already be walking
now.
He believed I was too soft–hearted–that if I had a child, I’d never leave.
Ethan suddenly looked up, his face filled with rage, and his voice was extremely cold. “Marvin, you bastard! Don’t you realize Eleanor got hurt during that miscarriage and can never have kids again?
“You’re still picking at her wounds. Do you want her dead just so you can feel better?”
Marvin froze, his eyes wide in shock. His voice shook as he asked, “What… what did you say?”
My heart ached so much I could barely breathe. I finally understood how deep the damage he caused me really went.
I helped Ethan to his feet, holding his hand, and stared straight at Marvin.
“Mr. Berman, this is our home. You’re not welcome here. Take your men and leave. Don’t ever show your face again.
“Otherwise, I won’t mind dying for real this time.”
After kicking Marvin and his bodyguards out, I closed the door without hesitation.
The door slammed shut in front of Marvin, and the last thing he saw was me and Ethan standing side by side, leaning on each other for support.

He was right there, but it felt like he was far away.
When he turned away, his heart hurt so much it felt like he couldn’t breathe. Even moving one step felt like dragging heavy chains.
But no matter how harsh the words were, they couldn’t make Marvin stop.
The following morning, my neighbor told me the Berman Group had bought out the entire apartment building.
That meant I was once again stuck under Marvin’s watchful eye, which was seriously frustrating.
That day, I was getting ready to leave, planning to move once Ethan got back.
There was a knock at the door. I assumed it was him. But when I opened it, someone totally unexpected was standing there.
It was Luciana.
But she didn’t look like herself at all.
She used to be a proud, rich girl, always neat and full of attitude. But now, she looked messy, and the pride in her eyes had been replaced with something wild, like she had lost her mind.
I had heard that our father had been ruined by Marvin and was now homeless somewhere in Austin.
When Luciana saw me, she gave me a creepy smile.

“So it’s really you, Eleanor. You’re You’re here to steal Marvin again, aren’t you?”
What a crazy woman.

I didn’t want to deal with her. I just wanted her out of my house as fast as
possible.
But just as I was about to shut the door, a sharp glint appeared in front of
piercing flesh.
There was no time to react. I only heard the awful sound of something
