Chapter 2
“Mom, don’t worry. I’ll take her back so she can rest,” Marvin said, his tone cold and distant.
As soon as I stepped into the Berman’s residence, someone forced me to swallow a pill. Moments later, a wave of unbearable pain rushed through my body.
My forehead was soaked with sweat. I realized Marvin had ordered someone to give me the most painful abortion medicine.
He was so cruelly stingy, he wouldn’t even allow a proper procedure. Instead, he made me endure the brutal pain of the child being separated from my body.
I trembled nonstop in bed, the mattress beneath me drenched in blood.
In my blurred state, I heard Marvin shouting anxiously, “What’s happening? Where’s the hemostatic pump? Use it now!”
Since when was he afraid of losing me?
Wasn’t Luciana the only one he couldn’t live without?
After the doctor confirmed the baby was gone, Marvin ordered everyone to leave. But soon, there was noise outside my room.
Luciana barged in with a bunch of people, and one of them dragged me off the bed.
I hit the cold floor hard, and Luciana kicked me hard in the stomach with her pointed heels.

“Ah!”
The wound that had just stopped bleeding reopened, sending a burst of pain through my body. I curled up in
in agony.
She yanked my hair, pulled me across the floor twice, and my clothes were soaked with sweat and blood.
“Do you think having a baby would get an illegitimate child like you into. the Berman family?” she shouted, slapping me across the face.
I couldn’t tell if the wetness on my cheeks was from crying or sweating. I just kept apologizing, “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to…”
“Liar! Still pretending, huh? Marvin has been waiting for me for three years! There’s no way he’d let you carry his child!
“You must have tricked him!
“He only let you into his bed to piss me off for getting married. You really thought you could take my place and become his wife?”
Luciana pulled her hand away and called one of the bodyguards nearby with a chilling voice. “Today, I’ll make sure she gives up on chasing rich men! Hit her! Make sure she’ll never be able to have kids again!”
The bodyguards were all big and strong. They beat me so badly I coughed up blood. At some point, I blacked out completely.
When I finally woke up, the room was completely quiet. I touched the dark bruises on my stomach and let out a laugh, tears falling from my eyes.
Maybe it was for the best. I felt completely empty inside. I only had three days left before I could leave this place anyway.
Still, word got back to Marvin that Luciana had shown up and beat me

- up.
Right in front of me, she put on her best act–graceful and full of accountability. “Marvin, I truly didn’t know about this. But since it was my men who did this, I owe you an explanation.
“The bodyguard just lost control because he saw me getting yelled at.
“But honestly, it’s because Eleanor is grieving the loss of her baby and her emotions are unstable…”
The more she talked, the more pitiful she made herself sound. And slowly, Marvin’s expression began to soften.
Then she ordered her two bodyguards to kneel in front of me, hitting the floor so hard that their knees started to bleed.
I didn’t want to watch any more, but Marvin grabbed my chin and made me look, his cold voice right next to my ear.
“Remember your identity. You’re just a dog the Surrett family sent over to make amends. No one has the right to lay a hand on you, except me. Got it?”
I gave a small nod.
As expected, the reason he wouldn’t let me go was that he didn’t want to lose control over my body.
Since I was too weak to even get out of bed, he hadn’t come to check on me in the past few days.
For the first time, he actually had someone give me all kinds of health supplements, and even watched me put on medicine himself. He said that if I didn’t recover, no one could calm his restless body and mind.
With him always watching, I had no choice but to eat all the nutritious

food they gave me. Little by little, I was finally able to move around again.
There was only one day left before I could leave, so I stayed quiet and tried not to draw any attention. I didn’t speak unless it was absolutely needed.
Still, that didn’t stop Luciana from stirring up more drama.
That morning, when I opened my eyes, I saw her standing at the side of my bed.
“Did you sleep well? Are you feeling any better?” she asked sweetly, but her fake smile reminded me of a snake ready to strike.
I felt a little nervous and asked her stiffly, “What are you trying to do
now?”
She suddenly started crying and said, “Eleanor, why are you being so mean? Are you guarding yourself against me?”
At that moment, the door swung open and Marvin came inside.
Without warning, Luciana ran into his arms, tears streaming down her cheeks. “Marvin, Eleanor ripped up the first love letter you ever gave me!”
My eyelids twitched nervously.
She continued, “I only dropped by to see her and talk a little, but right when I pulled out the letter, she…”
“That’s not true!” I interrupted, my face draining of color.
Bits of torn paper fluttered to the floor.
I stumbled out of bed, barely able to stand, and looked at Marvin with steady eyes. “Mr. Berman, I know my place. I’ve never tried to reach

someone I don’t deserve–like you.”
When he heard me say that I never tried to reach someone I don’t deserve like him, a hint of disappointment flickered in his eyes. But before he could respond, Luciana’s servant suddenly spoke up, “Mr. Berman, I saw it clearly. Ms. Eleanor snatched the letter from Ms. Luciana and ripped it up. She also said…
“She said that since Ms. Luciana was already married, she should stop dreaming about becoming Mrs. Berman. She even insulted Ms. Luciana, saying she was a shameless flirt.”
Marvin’s face went pale hearing this. He stared at me, clenching his jaw.
“So this is what you meant when you said you weren’t chasing after me? Not trying to climb your way up?
“I must’ve treated you too well lately. You really think I can’t live without you?
“Slap her until she admits she was wrong! The harder the slap, the bigger the bonus!”
