She looked at Alisa’s calm eyes a
felt an
inexplicable sense of dread. She averted her gaze and walked towards her.
My mother–in–law has no intention of being under your control.”
“Oh, and you won’t help me?”
Pamela gritted her teeth and said, “I wanted to, but I don’t know how. I can’t just go and tell her that I’m the one who told you their secrets.”
Alisa fiddled with her fingers as she responded, “I thought you came here with good news today. If that’s not the case, you’ll have to think of a way. Think about your son. People’s potential only comes out when they’re forced.”
Pamela frowned. “I can try, but you can’t blame me if I fail. If my mother–in–law joins you, you can’t tell her anything about
me.”
Alisa replied coldly, “That’s an extra charge.”
“What?” Pamela asked.
“Our last trade was one secret in exchange for my promise to keep your secret, but I never agreed to help you hinder their investigation. Your mother–in–law and Mr. Keller are not fools. Even if no one tells them, they’ll still be able to find out the truth.
“If you want my help, you know the rules,” Alisa said.
Alisa’s words caught Pamela off guard. She thought her request was reasonable and that Alisa would agree, but she had underestimated her.
Since she was already going down this dark path, revealing one secret or two didn’t seem to make a difference.
Pamela sighed. “I have a relative who wanted me to help her daughter out, so I forged her educational background and got her a job at a fashion design company. I didn’t expect her to do so well, to the extent that she’d be promoted to the director’s position. That counts as a secret, right?”
Alisa raised her eyebrow, then said, “Not the juiciest thing I’ve heard, but still a secret. Fine, I’ll help you hinder their investigation. Rest assured, you can keep being Mrs. Green.”
After the negotiation, Ramela picked up her bag and left.
Alisa gave Ricky a look, signaling him to investigate whether the secret was true.
After Pamela returned home, she started to exert her influence.
During dinner that night, she deliberately brought up the gossip right in front of Laurel.
“People these days just get wilder as they age. Honey, one of my distant relatives is nearly active, and recently, he’s rumored to be having a secret fling with another old lady. Don’t you think people are getting less decent with age? If it gets out, it’ll be so embarrassing”
“Really? That’s just so indecent. They’re old enough to have grandchildren and still doing such a thing? They don’t even think about how their kids will have to live with it.”
Pamela chuckled and glanced at Laurel, whose expression had gone stiff.
“Exactly. People with high morals like our parents are rare these days. Right, Laurel?” The elders should set an example for the younger ones.”

Her words were aimed at Laurel.
She had been carrying a secret with her, hadn’t slept well in days, and had visibly lost some weight.
After being provoked by Pamela, she totally lost her appetite. She put down her fork, muttered a quick excuse, and went back to her room.
Pamela knew that she had achieved her goal and figured Laurel would come around by tomorrow.
At such an old age, what’s the point of being so stubborn?
Laurel spent the night sleepless, restless, and uneasy.
Eventually, she decided to compromise with Alisa.
If this secret got out, she could tolerate being laughed at by others but not being ridiculed by her daughter–in–law, whom she despised.
Since Laurel had compromised, Martin had no choice but to follow.
Early the next morning, Ricky’s phone rang.
He arranged for both of them to meet with Alisa at Skyrend Hotel.
“Speak,” Alisa said while clasping her hands together and looking at them calmly.
These two had been in Qodon for decades. They must know plenty of secrets, and Alisa was looking forward to hearing them.
They exchanged a glance before Martin finally spoke, “Alisa, I know what you’re trying to do. Why don’t we make a deal instead?”
This old man wanted to turn the tables.
It made sense. Martin was a formidable figure in Qodon, after all. He wouldn’t be content to be controlled by someone younger.
Alisa looked at him with interest and said, “Go on.
Martin leaned back on his chair and said confidently, “I own an online magazine that deals in entertainment and business deals. This industry always involves secrets about celebrities and big–shot businessmen. I have as many secrets as you want. Even if I don’t, I can create them.
“I can give you this online magazine, but in exchange, you tell me who tipped you off about the Cloudland Estate.”
“Well, that sounds like a pretty good deal,” Alisa said.
It was tempting, indeed.
Unfortunately, Alisa had already promised Pamela to keep her secret and stop them from digging further.
