“Yeah. Do you think I’ll get pregnant?” I patted my belly.
“You doubting me? My herb works like a charm! Maybe there’s already a little dragon baby in there.”
Sighing, I lay back on the stone steps.
Carol asked, “Why so glum? Isn’t this what you wanted?”

“Yeah, but the elders want me to pick a husband and get married soon. If I’m really pregnant, how can I get married?”
Seeing me all frown–faced, Carol stretched out a long leaf and stroked my forehead.
“Isn’t this a golden opportunity? The kid needs a proper status to be born, right?”
Carol and I fell silent.
Two days later, the elders sent word for me to go over.
In the ancestral hall, several elders were sitting on the high seats. Ryan and Emma were already there, and there was also a pair of dragons that I didn’t take a shine to.
“Megan, the guy you’re going to meet is Nick Butt. He’s a low–class Black Dragon, but his family’s loaded, and he’s an orphan. You won’t be short–changed if you marry him. A guy with these kinds of conditions is a rare find among Black Dragons,” an elder said.

your mess of a situation, who in their right mind would marry you? You should count your blessings to have even one offer. Do you really think you’re in a position to be picky?”
With that, she covered her mouth and playfully nudged Norman, only to be silenced by a sharp glare from Ryan.
Emma then stepped in, feigning concern. “Megan, Black Dragons aren’t the best–looking bunch, but if it feels right, just tie the knot.”
Emma always acted like she was my own mother, but it was all an act. In reality, she couldn’t care less about me on a daily basis. She only put on a show in front of my dad and the elders.
Let’s be real. Black Dragons were at the bottom of the barrel when it came to both looks and skills.
“Where is he?” I demanded.
The moment the question left my mouth, a familiar, almost magnetic aura swept through the room,
From behind the ornate screen emerged a dragon.
What a vision! He was a stunner, and everyone in the room was left breathless by his good looks. His hair danced lightly in the gentle breeze. Beneath his eyebrows were a pair of deep, mysterious eyes, with slightly upturned corners that gave him a devil–may–care look.
