Chapter 13
“The door’s already off. Why not move tonight?
“To my place.”
Latrina looked a bit stunned, and his words echoed in her mind again.
A flicker of warmth touched her heart, but she quickly stifled it before it could take root..
‘Gerhart, just forget it. Go on. There ar
are plenty of noble ladies waiting for you. I’m just a lowly employee. Anyone’s better than me…”
cut her off, “But not every woman gets the chance to sleep with me.”

Latrina thought, “Seriously?
“So this ice–cold man was a virgin!”
No wonder the day after that night, he asked, “How about trying to be Mrs. Crowley?” Turns out, he was really a traditional guy. Latrina’s face flushed instantly. She fumbled for her water bottle and chugged greedily.

“Be careful tonight. Call me if you need anything.” Gerhart stood up and headed for the door of the cluttered room.
“Gerhart.”
She called out as he passed by.
Gerhart stopped, as if waiting for more, but Latrina only said, “Thanks.”
He said nothing, his expression unchanged, and walked out.
The My
He’d lost count of how many times this woman had called him, no deference in her tone, as if they were old friends who’d known each other for
years.
Latrina watched Gerhart’s retreating back, then glanced at the broken door…
A broken family, plus being hurt by a scumbag, suddenly, the thought of never marrying popped into her head. If it had been someone else in bed with Gerhart that night, he would’ve asked the same question to that woman.
So Latrina believed that Gerhart didn’t love her. It was about that night.
She booked a hotel room, contacted the landlord, and arranged for someone to fix the door.
Then, as night fell, she drove to the garage where Eduardo used to get his car repaired.
It was run by Sonya’s uncle. And Latrina would give them both a final “gift“.
She stated her reason plainly. The car’s dashcam was broken, and she needed it fixed. She even specially mentioned that she was a friend of Eduardo’s.
The mechanics recognized the car. It was the one Eduardo had driven that day. So Sonya’s uncle personally handled checking the dashcam. Latrina feigned trust, left the car with them, and walked away.
Soon enough, by Wednesday, Eduardo and Sonya’s engagement was called off.
Sonya’s uncle must have heard the dashcam recordings and found the pinhole camera, too.
The Howell family already thought Eduardo’s lack of feeling for Sonya was a huge problem. His demand that she abort the baby? It showed he didn’t care the Howell family at all, so they called off the engagement.
As for the Gillespie family? They lost their reputation. Their son, unmarried, had gotten someone pregnant, and now couldn’t even marry her. The sure benefits had slipped through their fingers!
Latrina felt wonderful about her revenge!
Latrina enjoyed the chaos for a few days, but she knew she had to hurry up and find a new place to live. If word got out that she’d set them up, things could get messy.

That day, she left work in high spirits, waiting patiently by the elevator.
The doors slid open. Gerhart and Kelvin stood inside.
History really did repeat itself. She stepped in, and sure enough, on the 18th floor, the elevator stopped to let in that noisy group from the publicity department.
Latrina tried to edge to the side to put some space between them, but a shuffle of bodies pushed her right up against Gerhart.
She took a deep breath and felt like she was suffocating.
“Ms. Glover, excuse me.”
The colleague beside her glanced at the gap between her and Gerhart, then gave her a little nudge.
Latrina stumbled, nearly falling. Her hand shot out instinctively to grab something but actually held a large, warm hand.
“Whoa!” Startled, Latrina steadied herself and tried to pull back, but his grip tightened.
She thought, “Oh no! If anyone sees this, how will I explain?”
Just then, a WhatsApp message notification jolted her from her panic.
She took the chance to yank her hand free.
It was the tailor, “The clothes are ready. Can you pick them up yourself tonight? [Location]”
“Okay,” she replied.
“Your boyfriend will probably love them.“,
Ugh…
She glanced at the message, then quickly locked her screen.
But she hadn’t noticed Gerhart, standing right beside her, had seen it all.
His eyes lingered on the familiar profile picture, the location, and the word “boyfriend.”
The elevator reached Bl. She hurried out and got in her car, turned on the GPS, and drove off.
The car pulled up in front of a manor. The gate guard wouldn’t let her in, but the GPS clearly pointed
She was about to text the tailor when a message popped up.
“Wait at the gate for two minutes.”
She didn’t overthink it, got out of the car, and took in the manor before her.
to a spot inside.
It was a classic castle. From the gate to the main building, there was a stretch of lawn dotted with kapok trees. It was so stunning.
Just then, a familiar car pulled up beside her, and the window rolled down.
It was Gerhart!
Their eyes met.
A bodyguard opened the gate for Gerhart, but he didn’t step out.

“Ah! Granddaughter–in–law! Sorry to keep you waiting!” A voice boomed. Richard, who was exactly Gerhart’s grandfather, came hurrying out of the manor, chuckling.
“Granddaughter–in–law?”
Both at the gate froze.
“Why’d you two drive separate cars?” Richard glanced between them.“What, had a fight?”
Latrina gave Gerhart a pleading look.
Gerhart gave a sneer and got out of the car.

“Grandpa, you go in first.”
He grabbed Richard and steered him toward the manor.
Richard looked a little unpleased but knew better than to meddle, so he lingered nearby, watching from a distance.
Gerhart walked over to her, his voice cold.“What’s going on?”
Latrina took two steps back innocently.“I have no idea. I just came to pick up some clothes.”

“Then why did my grandpa call you granddaughter–in–law?” His tone was icy, part accusation, part something like hurt after being rejected.
“I don’t know…” Latrina paused, thinking. “I asked him to make a shirt for you. I’d wanted to make up for … you.”
Gerhart froze.“You knew my size?”
She answered shyly, “I didn’t. I took your jacket to him and … and told him…”
Her cheeks flushed.
“What did you tell him?”
I lied to him, saying it was for my boyfriend. I asked him to match it to the jacket size.”
Her voice dropped to a murmur, nothing like her usual quick, confident tone.
Clever girl!
Gerhart let out a low laugh.“You’re in trouble!”
He planted his hands on his hips, frowning as he glanced at Richard, who was watching from afar, his eyes bright with hope.

for your boyfriend… How do you think he took that?”
“No wonder he asked me the other day if I’d torn any clothes…”
Latrina fell silent.
Only now did she realize she’d walked straight into a mess.
“Do you know what today is?” Gerhart’s eyes, bottomless and intense, locked onto hers.
“What day?” She clutched her dress tighter.
“It’s Grandpa’s eightieth birthday. All the relatives and friends are here.”
Latrina’s legs went weak. Big family gatherings like this were serious occasions. It was hard to read the guests‘ minds, and one wrong move would make her the center of gossip.
Gerhart said nothing, waiting for her to respond.
“What do I do?” She clenched her hands into fists. Only now did she realize why there’d been no deposit, no measurements.
“The birthday man came out to fetch you. I’d bet everyone inside is waiting for you.”
Latrina looked up at him, her eyes wide with panic, as if silently begging, “Help me, please…”
“Either come in with me, or go explain to Grandpa yourself.” Gerhart tilted his head, nodding toward Richard.
If she turned and ran now, Gerhart would likely become the night’s laughingstock. If she went to explain… How could she possibly untangle this
