Chapter 8
The day before the wedding.
After watching the fireworks with Angelina on the mountain, Benjamin decided to stay there for the night.
Early the next morning, he planned to take Angelina home and then head straight to the hospital. But just as they reached the city, she suddenly said, “Dr. Garza, I have the day off today. Let’s go to the aquarium.”
Suddenly, Benjamin thought of Rachel at the hospital, and words of refusal were already on his lips. But Angelina gently patted him and said, “Dr. Garza, the aquarium is right there. Let’s just go, okay?”
Whenever she spoke to him in that soft voice, he never knew how to say
- no.
By the time they finished their visit, it was already evening. After dropping Angelina off at her home, Benjamin turned to leave for the hospital, but a soft hand held him back. “Dr. Garza, it’s too late. Why don’t you stay over tonight?”
Her touch was warm on his wrist. He hesitated, torn inside, thinking that the wedding was tomorrow and it was just one night. In the end, he stayed.
Seeing that he agreed to stay, Angelina was secretly delighted.
She then took a bottle of wine from the cabinet. “Dr. Garza, have a drink. with me.”
Angelina knew that tomorrow was Benjamin and Rachel’s wedding. No

matter how many hints she had dropped, both openly and subtly, Benjamin seemed oblivious, showing no intention of canceling the wedding.
Even after sleeping with her that day, he still hadn’t mentioned taking responsibility. She couldn’t think of any other way, so she could only try to get him drunk, hoping he would miss the wedding tomorrow.
But Benjamin had made up his mind to attend the wedding tomorrow, shutting out all sources of uncertainty. “No more drinking. I have something important tomorrow. Let’s get some rest early tonight.”
With that, he took out his phone and walked toward the guest room, leaving Angelina biting her lip as she watched his retreating figure.
Benjamin sent Rachel a message, but received no reply before he went to bed.
Early the next morning, he went to the hospital. Checking his phone, there was still no response. Rachel often forgot to reply to his messages in the past, so Benjamin didn’t think much of it and locked his screen.
At the hospital, he headed straight for the ward, but when he opened the door, it was empty. He took out his phone to call her, but only got a message that her phone was off. A sense of unease began to rise in his heart.
Suppressing his anxiety, Benjamin went to the nurses‘ station, only to find out that Rachel had been discharged the day before.
That uneasy feeling grew stronger, but he reassured himself that she must have gone to the wedding venue early.
Sitting in the car, Benjamin kept glancing at his watch. It was getting late, so he urged the driver, “Vincent, please hurry up. If we’re late, Rachel.

will get upset.”
That was just how she was–spoiled by her family since childhood, unable to tolerate the slightest grievance. Thinking of this, a smile appeared on Benjamin’s lips without him even realizing it.
Vincent sped up, and soon they arrived at the hotel chosen for the wedding.
Benjamin strode inside and pushed open the heavy doors, only to find the place desolate, with no sign of a wedding. If he hadn’t personally chosen. this location, he might have thought he had come to the wrong place.
A waiter passed by, and Benjamin grabbed him. “Excuse me, isn’t there supposed to be a wedding here today?”
“A wedding? I haven’t heard anything about a wedding,” the waiter. replied, looking puzzled.
Benjamin let go, his expression blank. He felt as if something was collapsing in a way he couldn’t bear.
At a loss, he shakily took out his phone and called his father, trying to sound casual. “Dad, did the wedding get moved to another place? Why didn’t anyone tell me? Has Rachel already gone over?”
“Rachel? Didn’t she leave yesterday?” William replied, sounding confused,
