Declan didn’t give up. He clumsily tried to copy Oliver’s approach, showing up at Nina’s dorm building every morning with carefully prepared breakfast.
Whenever Nina came downstairs, Declan would rush over eagerly.
“Nina, you used to love breakfast from this place…”
Nina didn’t even glance at it, taking it directly and tossing it in the nearby trash can.
She turned back, her eyes showing undisguised disgust.
“Declan, doing stuff like this just reminds me over and over how cruel you used to be.”
Declan’s hand froze mid–air, his face instantly pale as paper.
A few days later, it started raining.
Declan stood outside Nina’s lab building without an umbrella, letting the freezing rain soak through his
clothes completely.
He remembered a long time ago, he’d also rushed across half the city to find her like this, and she’d been so
heartbroken she’d cried.
Next second, the lab door opened, and Nina and Oliver walked out together.
Oliver opened an umbrella, naturally tilting it toward Nina while his own shoulder got soaked.
They chatted quietly about something, Nina listening with a relaxed expression.
They walked right past Declan, but Nina’s eyes stayed on Oliver the entire time, never once looking at him–as if he was just some irrelevant stranger.
The downpour drenched Declan completely. Watching their retreating figures, jealousy nearly tore him
apart.
That night, Nina fell asleep at her lab desk after pulling consecutive all–nighters.
Oliver came looking for her and found her peaceful sleeping face, with faint dark circles under her eyes.
He sighed softly, took off his jacket, and carefully draped it over her.
Then he pulled up a chair and sat quietly beside her, guarding her while handling some scattered work.

But the next second, glancing up, he noticed Declan was still standing downstairs.
Soaked to the bone, staring fixedly at the lab window.
Oliver frowned, looked at the still–sleeping Nina, then quietly got up and went outside.
Rain pattered down as Declan saw Oliver come out alone and walk straight toward him.
His voice stayed polite but carried unquestionable firmness: “Please leave. Nina’s exhausted and needs rest. Your behavior is causing her serious distress.”
‘Distress?”
Days of jealousy and frustration exploded instantly. Declan stared at Oliver, voice hoarse: “You know what she and I have been through together? Do you have any idea about our fifteen years of history? You’ve known her for what, five minutes? You can’t compete with even a fraction of our past!”
Oliver just looked at him calmly: “However deep past feelings were, you destroyed them yourself. Now I’m he one by her side.”
Declan laughed bitterly, completely losing control as he stepped forward and shoved Oliver hard.
The rain made the ground slippery, and Oliver stumbled, slipped, and fell.
just then, Nina woke up from the commotion outside and saw Declan pushing Oliver..
‘Oliver!” Her face changed dramatically as she rushed downstairs without thinking.
‘Are you okay? Where does it hurt? Are you hurt?” She anxiously checked Oliver’s condition, voice full of
worry.
Declan watched Nina unhesitatingly run to Oliver, watched her eyes fill with concern for another man, watched her complete indifference to himself.
All his rage and frustration stuck in his throat.
So she really didn’t belong to him anymore.
she wouldn’t spare him even the tiniest bit of care.
Nina helped Oliver up, then finally looked at Declan with pure annoyance.
‘Declan, besides hurting people, what else can you do? I have a new life now. Don’t show your face around us again!”
Then she left with Oliver, completely shutting Declan out of her world.

Chapter 13
To treat Oliver’s wounds, Nina brought him back to her apartment.
Looking at the bruising and scraped skin, she felt terrible.
“I’m sorry, this is all because of me…”
“It’s not your fault.” Oliver gently interrupted her.
He watched her bow her head, exposing her slender neck, his heart melting completely.
The next second, he gently took hold of her hand that was applying medicine.
Nina froze, instinctively trying to pull back, but he held on with gentle firmness.
Oliver looked up, his gaze burning as he looked at her, voice low and serious: “Nina, actually from the first time I saw you in the lab, I couldn’t help wanting to get closer to you.”
Nina’s heart jumped, looking up into his deep eyes.
He gently stroked the back of her hand: “I know you’ve been badly hurt before, but that’s all in the past. You have a long future ahead.”
He paused, his gaze incredibly focused, saying each word clearly: “Nina, I like you… Let me take care of you,
okay?”
The sudden confession broke down Nina’s last defenses.
She didn’t answer immediately, her cheeks slightly flushed, heart pounding like a drum.
But the hand he was holding didn’t try to pull away again.
The air filled with sweet tension. After a long moment, Nina nodded almost imperceptibly: “Okay…”
Instantly, Oliver looked at her in disbelief, unable to help smiling as he completely enveloped her hand in his, as if holding the world’s most precious treasure.
