While replying to the text messages, I went downstairs and saw Phoenix’s car parked at the entrance.
On the way, Phoenix handled the steering wheel expertly, always extending his arm to protect me
when he braked.
A small warmth spread through my heart.
That day Phoenix accompanied me to choose wedding dresses, rings, shoes, and accessories.
Like a normal boyfriend would.

Phoenix’s words were like a tranquilizer.
Garrett wanted me to be refined and proper, but this man wanted me to be myself.
When he talked about my childhood mischief, there was even a hint of nostalgia in his voice.
In that instant, my heart melted completely.
After that, Phoenix would come home to spend time with me whenever he was free.
Sometimes even when he was busy with meetings, he’d make time to check on me.
His secretary Grace could arrange everything perfectly for me–food, clothing, housing, transportation–nothing was ever lacking.
“Phoenix really likes you. I’ve never seen him care so much about a woman.”

“My kid is eight years old, and my husband is the company’s legal counsel and Phoenix’s good
friend.”
Grace said this while helping me pick out a dress for tonight’s Montgomery family dinner.
I really didn’t want to go to this family dinner.
So I was anxious the whole time.
Grace noticed, and she picked up a pink dress and came over.
