Chapter 3
Chloe’s face went pale in an instant.
Anxiety flickered across her expression as she hurriedly apologized.
“Scarlett, I’m so sorry. It was just… an accident.”
Her eyes welled up with tears, the kind that teetered on the brink, threatening to spill at any moment.
She looked like the victim here, as if Scarlett had somehow wronged her instead.
It was laughable.
Scarlett’s expression didn’t change.
Her smile remained perfectly composed.
“Well, congratulations to both of you,” she said brightly.
To an outsider, her words might have sounded genuinely warm, like a friend offering her heartfelt blessings.
Only Scarlett knew how bitterly ironic they were.
Three years ago, she might have felt rage or despair.
Now, there was nothing left but a calm indifference.
“Scarlett… can I keep this baby?”
Chloe’s voice was soft, pleading, almost pitiful.
Scarlett wasn’t surprised.
That act always worked wonders on Liam.
“You don’t have to explain yourself to her,” Liam cut in, his tone sharp as he glanced at Chloe, “This baby is ours. We don’t need her permission, do
we?”
His glare shifted to Scarlett, as if she had somehow attacked Chloe with her mere existence.
All Scarlett had done was congratulate them.
She chuckled softly,
“Sure, have the baby. We’re all one big happy family, right? Back in the day, the mistress having a kid to secure the family legacy would’ve been
considered a win.”
“When the baby’s born, they’ll call me ‘Mom,‘ won’t they?”
“Scarlett, that’s enough!”
Liam snapped, his anger boiling over.
Scarlett only laughed harder, her tone light and teasing.
“Oh, relax. It was just a joke. No need to get so serious.”

Chapter 3
She shifted gears easily, her voice still casual.
“Grandpa asked me to pick you up and bring you back to the estate. So, what’s the plan? Are you riding with me, or staying here with her?”
Liam hesitated for a few seconds before picking up his suitcase and loading it into Scarlett’s car.
“Drop us off at the Regency Grand Hotel first,” he said curtly.
Scarlett drove them to the hotel without a word, her demeanor as calm and collected as ever.
It took Liam half an hour to settle Chloe in before he returned to the car.
When he got back in, he chose the backseat again, as if putting distance between them.
The car slipped back into the flow of traffic.
“So,” Scarlett said with a teasing lilt, “if you care about her so much, why are you letting her stay in a hotel?”
“She’s pregnant, after all. Shouldn’t she have a house or two to call her own?”
Liam’s tone was ice cold, laced with suppressed fury.
“Scarlett, you’re doing this on purpose, aren’t you?”
Scarlett couldn’t hold back her laughter.
“Oops, my bad. I forgot–you don’t have any property to your name, do you?”
It was true.
Liam didn’t own a single house.
Every piece of real estate the Hawthornes had purchased for him over the years had been put under Scarlett’s name instead.
Scarlett’s portfolio included over a hundred properties–luxury homes, villas, even commercial storefronts.
Meanwhile, Liam had… nothing.
Well, he did own a significant amount of shares in the family business.
From the moment he got into the car, Liam had been watching Scarlett.
Her smile never faltered, her cheerfulness never dimmed.
But Liam knew her too well.
They’d grown up together.
No one understood her better than he did.
He knew her grin wasn’t as harmless as it seemed.
Scarlett held grudges like nobody’s business, and seeing Chloe’s pregnant belly must have pushed her to her limits.
The barbs, the jokes–they were her way of lashing out.
Or maybe she was just using the family’s wealth to remind him of his place.
The more Liam thought about it, the more disgusted he felt.
Chapter 3
“Scarlett, stop messing with Chloe,” he snapped, his tone colder than ever.
“And don’t even think about trying to win me back. Whatever the family has given you, I won’t fight for it. Consider it compensation. But if you want
more-”
His eyes narrowed.
“Don’t forget, I can take the title of Mrs. Hawthorne away from you anytime I want.”
Scarlett’s playful smile faded.
Her expression grew serious, and her voice was calm and steady.
“Liam, let’s get divorced.”
