Chapter 9
Maxwell’s face crumpled as he spoke with a choked voice.
“Miss… Miss Reynolds, I truly understand my mistake now. It was my fault for being so blind and underestimating your influence.”
“What if we proceed with the marriage as planned? We could get the license this afternoon!”
I curled my lips into a smile and gave him a meaningful look.
“Mr. Grayson, anything you say now is too late.”
“Don’t you remember? All the gifts sent to your family for the marriage proposal were returned.”
My words struck like lightning, leaving Maxwell in prolonged silence.
Seeing Grayson Industries‘ current predicament, founder Victor Grayson could only sigh quietly from the sidelines.
The scene became terrifyingly quiet as everyone wondered how I would deal with the Grayson family next.
After a while, feeling that my anger had mostly subsided, I turned to look at the dejected Victor Grayson and sighed softly.
“Uncle Victor, for my father’s sake, I might consider letting your family off the hook.”
“But I have one condition.”
After hearing my words, Victor Grayson’s eyes suddenly lit up.
“Miss Reynolds, please tell me–what’s your condition?”
“As long as it saves the Grayson family, I’ll do anything you ask!”
I raised my hand to point at the tear–streaked Maxwell and smiled mysteriously.
“Uncle Victor, do you remember that verse from the Bible–He who sows the wind will reap the whirlwind.”
As soon as I finished speaking, Maxwell perked up.
“Reynolds, what are you getting at?”
“Are you suggesting my father should disown me and throw me out of the family?”
I spread my hands, shrugged, and looked at him with an ambiguous smile.
“Mr. Grayson, weren’t you just begging me to spare your family?”
“Now that I’ve offered a solution, you’re unhappy again. It’s really difficult to please everyone.”
Midway through my speech, I pointed toward the Cadillac in the distance.
“Someone scratched the back of my boss’s car, and someone needs to take responsibility, right?”
“Given Secretary Warner’s current level, she’s not important enough to take the fall, but you… you’re just right.”
My final sentence was deliberately meant for Victor Grayson to hear.
While making my position clear, I was also leaving the Grayson family a way out.

Chapter 9
After all, the entire incident was Maxwell’s and his secretary’s fault, not anyone else’s.
After a moment’s hesitation, Victor Grayson nodded firmly.
“Miss Reynolds, we’ll do as you say. I’ll hold a press conference tomorrow.”
“And… I’ll publicly announce that I’m severing all ties with Maxwell!”
Maxwell tried to make one last struggle, but whatever he said now was too late to change anything.
The trouble began with him, and it had to end with him.
As for Tiffany, the catalyst for the whole incident, she was sent directly to the police station for a ‘thorough‘ investigation.
Given how she had insulted my boss on the phone, she likely wouldn’t be able to return to America for the rest of her life.
After tonight, Grayson Industries would completely disappear from the business world.
With just a few phone calls, I caused a publicly traded company with thousands of employees to vanish overnight, as if it had never existed at all.
After handling everything, I called my father to specifically ask him to introduce more suitable matches next time.
And with that, my New York trip came to an end…
