Chapter 2
Chapter 2
$500,000?! How dare she!
After falling out with my father, I’d spent everything trying to pay for Reed’s “treatment.” I’d already pawned all of my mother’s belongings and couldn’t even scrape together $500, let alone $500,000.
I looked at her smug face, then at Reed, but he avoided my gaze and silently approved of Sage’s bullying.
Suddenly, my heart felt like it was being squeezed by an icy hand, and the last trace of romantic fantasy about our past completely crumbled to dust.
“Fine.”
“I’ll buy it.”
I just wanted to get back my mom’s last remaining thing and never have anything to do with these people again.
“Hah? You’ll buy it?”
Sage acted like she’d heard the joke of the century, covering her mouth in exaggerated laughter.
Then she pointed at the $2,500 premium sushi delivery bag still in my hands.
“You couldn’t make $500,000 in a lifetime of deliveries, could you? Look at what you’re carrying–such expensive sushi. Have you ever eaten anything like this? Ever even seen it? Do you deserve it?”
As she spoke, she suddenly lunged forward and snatched the delivery bag from my hands, then slammed it hard onto the floor before I could react!
“CRASH!”
The wooden insulated box hit the marble floor with a loud thud.
The lid popped open, and the exquisitely plated, incredibly expensive premium sushi spilled everywhere–sashimi, caviar, wagyu beef scattered across the floor…
She looked at the mess, curled her lips in a mocking smile, and viciously stepped on it.
Her delicate Chanel heels ground into the expensive tuna again and again, the scene both theatrical and cruel.
“See that? A $2,500 meal, and I can trash it whenever I want! But someone like you with your pathetic life could never be as carefree as me!”
“You’re destined to be poor your whole life! You’ll never be able to afford high–class stuff like this–you only deserve to smell it. That’s the difference
between YOU and ME, got it?”
With that, the crowd erupted in harsh laughter and mockery.
“Exactly! Some delivery girl thinks she can compete with Sage?”
“Look at that pathetic mess. She says she’ll pay the $500,000, but actually, it might be possible–she could hit up a nursing home and hook some sugar daddy!”
“True, she’s pretty decent looking, and old guys love that innocent vibe.”
Sage basked in the crowd’s approval, feeling even more smug.
She looked down at the ring on her finger, then at my miserable state, her face showing complete disgust.

Chapter 2
“When Reed told me your ring was something valuable, but you’re broke as hell, so no matter how expensive it is, it’s probably just cheap junk
anyway.”
“Only you would treat this thing like treasure.”
As she spoke, she pinched the ring between her fingers, then before anyone–including Reed–could react, she yanked open the glass door and flung her arm out, throwing the ring outside.
The ring traced an arc through the rain.
With a “splash,” it landed precisely in the rushing landscape river beside the mansion!
“NO!”
My eyes went wide with fury–that was the last memento my mother had left me!
Without hesitation, I rushed toward the balcony like a madwoman, ready to climb over the railing and jump into the freezing river!
