Chapter 11
Nelson took a step toward the door, but Lila grabbed his arm, tears spilling from her eyes.
“Let me come with you. I’ll apologize to Jessie myself. I’ll do whatever it takes to make her forgive
you.”
He looked at her–so fragile, so considerate.
“Lila, stay here. I’ll go find Jessie on my own. If she sees you right now, it’ll only make things
worse.”
Nelson left in a rush.
The moment the door closed behind him, the tears vanished from Lila’s face. Her lips curved into a
cold smile.
“You’re finally gone, Jessie. Any longer, and I would’ve had no choice but to end you.”
Back at the Hales‘ place, Nelson searched the house from top to bottom. No sign of Jessie.
Panic began to rise in his chest.
One of the maids approached cautiously. “Mr. Voss… all of her belongings are gone. There’s a barrel
in the backyard. She burned a lot of things.”
His voice sharpened with anger. “Jessie’s gone. And you’re only telling me now?”
The maid flinched. “We thought you’d made it clear–she wasn’t part of your life anymore.”
The recent headlines echoed in his mind. All of Silverpine had seen it:
He’d publicly claimed Lila as his wife.
He’d erased Jessie from the narrative.
Nelson rushed upstairs. Her clothes were gone.
Even their couple’s items–matching things they’d shared for years–only his half remained.
He ran back down, into the yard.
The metal burn barrel still held scorched remains. Some were still intact enough to recognize.
He knew them all.

Gifts he’d given her over the years.
The stuffed bunny–her favorite.
He used to cheer her up with toys like that. He’d spent hours at arcade claw machines just to win
them for her.
As she got older, Jessie developed a taste for designer bags. Nelson always made sure to get her the latest high–luxury bag releases–even if it meant staying up all night and refreshing the site at dawn. The moment he handed her a new bag, her eyes would light up with joy. She’d throw herself
into his arms, beaming.
“Nelson, you’re incredible! I just saw the news about the new release, and you already got it?”
“Of course. My Jessie deserves everything.
Then there were the clothes–every matching outfit they wore was designed together.
She had a natural talent for fashion design. Nelson loved contributing small elements to her
sketches, and she would always include them without hesitation.
Now, Nelson crouched beside the iron barrel, staring at the charred remains of it all. Everything he
and Jessie had shared was now reduced to ashes.
He buried his face in his hands, his voice raw with pain.
“Jessie…”
His phone rang. It was his assistant.
“Mr. Voss, we’ve confirmed it. Ms. Hale left for Yaviland two weeks ago. The Hale family assets. have been fully liquidated, even the Hale Group headquarters has been sold.”
The phone slipped from Nelson’s hand and hit the floor.
She left? Just like that?
His face went pale.
He tried calling Jessie over and over, but each time he got the same cold response: “The number you dialed is no longer in service. Please try again later.”
Her messaging account was deactivated. Gone.

He rushed to the Hale family’s old residence. Empty.
He went to the Hale Group. Their headquarters had been sold to buyers in Westbridge.
The subsidiaries–some had been acquired by foreign companies.
Every legal document had been updated. Ownership, wiped clean.
He tried reaching out to Jessie’s parents. No replies. No trace.
It felt like someone had ripped the ground out from under him.
He never imagined their relationship would end like this–cut off so completely, so permanently.
Now, no matter where he looked, he couldn’t find her.
He called everyone they’d ever known, but every single response was the same–no one had seen Jessie, and no one had heard from her.
