Chapter 5
An elderly woman was scolding a disobedient Omega girl on the street.
The little girl clutched her backside, crying and shouting, “Bad grandma, I don’t like you anymore! I want my mommy! Mommy, save me!”
I immediately froze in my tracks.
In that instant, the image of my pups flashed back in my mind.
The bodies of my pups, exposed outside their clothes, were covered in scars, rotten and festering.
My pups had never known a single day of motherly love. They were sent out to suffer, only to die tragically in the end.
I clutched my head in agony, as if some string in my mind had snapped. The crushing weight of losing my pups hit me again, as if I were drowning in my own grief.
I could still hear their cries in my mind–those heart–wrenching screams, as if they were still calling for me, “Mommy, save me! Mommy, it hurts so much!”
Without a second thought, I rushed forward and pulled the little girl into my arms, “Sweetheart, it’s okay, Mommy’s here. Mommy won’t let anyone hurt you again.‘
The grandmother froze for a moment, then screamed in terror, “Someone’s trying to steal our child in broad daylight!”
The little girl’s mother rushed over and angrily grabbed my hair, “You damn monster, let go of my daughter! Someone, come stop this child trafficker!”
The surrounding onlookers immediately filled with righteous indignation, surrounding me in a
circle.
They pried the little girl from my arms, punching and kicking me, spitting on me.
Someone recognized me and shouted, “I know this woman, she had six pups, all of them were monsters, they died the moment they were born. No wonder, she’s just getting what she deserves!”
“Your pups are dead, and now you want to steal someone else’s? The Alpha treated you so well, and you’re bringing shame to the Crystalveil Pack! I’m going to beat you to death, you disgrace to society.”
I clutched my stomach, lifting my face slightly.
Through the floor–to–ceiling window on the third floor of the hotel, Dylan was pressing Liora against the glass, entangled in an intimate embrace.

Blood trickled into my eyes, and I suddenly smiled silently.
Yes, I had loved the wrong person.
This was my punishment.
When Dylan rushed into the police station with disheveled hair, I was curled up in a corner, my face
covered in blood.
The little girl’s mother, still not satisfied, tried to come over and slap me again.
Dylan stepped in front of me, his cold eyes fixed on her, “My wife thought your mother–in–law was abusing the pup. She didn’t mean to do it. What kind of compensation do you want? Just name your
price.”
“But if you dare lay a finger on my wife again, I’ll make sure your entire family can’t live in the
North.”
Liora clung to his arm, urging him to calm down. She then turned to explain to the others, “You probably don’t know, but the Crystalveil Pack’s Luna is mentally unstable. Don’t take her actions
too seriously.”
She emphasized the words “mentally unstable” on purpose, and everyone looked at me with strange, disgusted eyes.
The other party took Dylan’s check, cursed at me, and left with the little girl.
“Maeve, let’s go home.”
I looked into his tired eyes and gently asked, “Dylan, you’re tired too, aren’t you? Don’t worry about me, it’ll be easier for you this way.”
Dylan hesitated for a moment, then tightly wrapped his arms around me and choked out, “Maeve, stop talking nonsense. I want to be with you not just for ten years, but for twenty, fifty years. You’ll always be my mate.”
His body still carried the scent of Liora’s perfume.
But Dylan, I didn’t want to be your
mate anymore.
