Chapter 1
Five years into our mate bond, I gave birth to six deformed pups. Not one of them survived for more
than three minutes.
My mother–in–law blamed me for being unlucky and a disgrace to the Crystalveil Pack. She had me bound and brought to the main pack house.
They made me drink a magical “purification” potion from a witch, kicking my stomach with cruel force, demanding that I kneel and beg forgiveness from their ancestors.
Just when I thought I couldn’t take any more, Dylan, my Alpha mate, appeared, his fury evident as
he fought off those who had hurt me. He publicly severed his ties with his mother.
Losing pups one after another drove me to madness, so much that I was sent to the Pack
Enforcement Office on multiple occasions.
Through it all, Dylan never abandoned me. He stayed by my side, personally tending to my health, trying to bring light back to my darkened life.
On our tenth anniversary, he invited a world–renowned acrobat troupe to cheer me up.
But I received an anonymous video email.
In the video, the Beta assistant held a pup without eyes in his arms, his face filled with pity.
“(
‘Alpha, you’ve been using medicine to make Luna give birth to deformed pups all these years. You’ve given them all to Liora just to help her acrobat troupe gain attention. Is it worth it?”
“This is the sixth one. Luna’s uterus has just been damaged and she can’t bear children anymore.
Let’s leave this one with her, shall we?”
Dylan’s face remained cold as he replied, “I promised Liora I’d help her build the greatest acrobat
troupe in the world. A few worthless creatures? They mean nothing to me.”
“As for Maeve, all that matters is that I’m here with her. Nothing else matters.”
Feeling utterly defeated, I made the choice to break the mate bond.
Later, the renowned medical professor Dylan went live globally to win his wife back, only to find
that his mate had married someone else.
In the video, the Beta assistant persisted, trying to convince Dylan.
((
‘Alpha, there are many disabled orphans in the orphanage. They just need a livelihood to get by. Why not send them to Liora? It could be a win–win situation.”

Dylan snorted, as if he had heard a joke. “Those are too ordinary. With the medicine I’ve designed, I can make Maeve give birth to whatever kind of monster I want. The more bizarre, the more attention it will draw, don’t you think?”
“Besides, can you guarantee that their parents won’t demand a high price from Liora? But I never ask for anything in return for what I do for her. That’s what first love means.”
I gripped my phone so tightly, my nails scraping the screen in frustration.
I couldn’t believe what I had just heard.
After hurriedly paying at the counter in the mall, I took a taxi straight to the mountain on the
outskirts of town.
My mother–in–law and the pack elders of the Crystalveil Pack had said my pups were monsters and
not worthy of being buried in the Crystalveil Pack’s ancestral grave. So Dylan had bought this plot of land as their resting place.
I knelt on the ground, frantically digging at the mounds.
I refused to believe it. I couldn’t accept that the Alpha mate I had loved for over a decade was actually a demon and a liar.
It couldn’t be true. It just couldn’t be.
I dug from morning until night, my fingers raw and bloody, but I didn’t care. That was when Dylan’s call came through, “Maeve, haven’t you finished shopping yet? It’s cold outside, come back soon. I’ve simmered seafood soup you love.”
“I know you’ve been missing the pups. How about we buy something and go visit them in a few days? I miss them too.”
His voice was as gentle as ever.
“Okay, I’m about to check out. I’ll talk to you later.”
I hung up the phone and numbly stared at the empty graves before me.
There were no bodies, no urns of ashes, nothing at all.
He really… had lied to me.
