I walked out of the infirmary, the dim corridor stretching before me as my thoughts swirled in chaos.
This was not how things were supposed to go. This was not how I was supposed to be dealing with them. And yet here I was. Yet here
I was thinking about all the possibilities of all the chaos that i would be dealing with.
“You and me, kid. No matter what happens, I promise I’ll be here. I won’t let anyone hurt you.” Her voice played in my
head as she
spoke to that child. And no matter how hard I tried to control myself, no matter how many times I tried to distract myself, I couldn’t.
She had been holding our daughter like she was the most fragile thing in the world. Speaking to her with tenderness, the kind that I
wasn’t sure I knew how to reciprocate. It was one that I knew that she should not have. She of all people should not be keeping her like
that. She was an Omega. For her to have my child, that was not something that I wanted. It was not something that I could just easily
accept.
She was not the woman that I wanted to see fit to mother my children. I fucking knew that she wasn’t the right person for that.

I exhaled sharply, running a hand down my face as I stepped outside. The cool night air bit at my skin, but it did little to
tension coiling in my chest. It did so little to ease the anger that I felt and it did so little to make things easier for me when it came to
how I was going to be thinking of this.
I had spent months trying to erase the memory of Eloise. Months trying to convince myself that whatever we had, whatever I felt for
her, meant nothing.
But now, she was here. And she had given birth to my child. A child I never expected. A child I wasn’t prepared for. A child that I did not
even want to have.
I clenched my fists as I made my way toward the packhouse, ignoring the greetings of the warriors standing guard. I had spent the
past few days fighting an internal battle, one that I wasn’t sure I would win. And knowing that I was alone in this did not make things
any easier for me.
Because the truth was, I didn’t know how to be a father.
The fact that my father had put me through something like this was not something that I could just easily ignore, and I knew that if I
had defied him, he was not going to be easy on me. However, he should not even be concerned with this. I was the pack alpha. Eloise
could be nothing more than a concubine, and yet he had forced me to admit her and my daughter, that girl that was supposed to be
considered illegitimate.
Had I not found her, maybe things would have been different, but I knew that if I did not keep looking for her, he was not going to stop.
And if he had found her, then things would have been a little more difficult for me to handle. 1
Stepping inside, I found my Beta, Caleb, waiting in my office. He sat on the edge of my desk, arms crossed, his sharp gaze landing on
me the moment I entered.
“You look like shit,” he muttered, pushing off the desk. “And it seems to me like things are not going in your favor.” I shot him a glare,

shutting the door behind me. “What do you want, Caleb?”
He snorted. “What do I want? You’ve been pacing the entire territory like a goddamn ghost. The entire pack knows something is off,
and I figured I’d save them the trouble and come to you directly. You know, with a child being born and everything that happened in
between.”
I leaned against my desk, pinching the bridge of my nose. “It’s nothing. I am going to be dealing with things my way.”
“Really? And how exactly do you plan on doing so with everything being against you the way that it is? You know, with your father
siding with her and…”
“Bullshit.” I muttered under my breath, stopping him.
I stayed quiet, jaw tightening.
Caleb sighed, crossing his arms over his chest. “This is about her, isn’t it?”
I looked up at him sharply, but he didn’t back down.
“Eloise,” he clarified, his voice steady. “And the kid.”
My stomach twisted, but I didn’t answer.
“You’ve spent months convincing yourself that she was nothing,” Caleb continued, stepping closer. “And now, suddenly, she’s back
with your baby, and you have no idea how to handle it.”
I turned away from him, staring at the fireplace, the flames flickering against the stone.
“She left,” I muttered, my voice quieter than I intended. “She didn’t tell me. She didn’t come to me. She just fucking left.”
“Maybe because she thought you wouldn’t care,” Caleb shot back. “Let’s be honest, Dominic. Would you have?”
I opened my mouth to respond, but the words caught in my throat.
Would I have?
I thought about the way I treated her that night. How I had taken her, claimed her, and then discarded her like she was nothing. How I
had ignored her after, pushing her away for the sake of keeping my position, my power.
Had I given her any reason to believe I would have been there for her?
No.
I exhaled sharply, shaking my head. “It doesn’t change the fact that she should have told me.”
Caleb scoffed. “And what would you have done, Dominic? Accepted her with open arms? Kicked Lucy out and announced to the pack
that you knocked up the she–wolf you rejected?”
I shot him a glare, but he didn’t flinch.

“You can be pissed all you want,” he continued, “but this isn’t just about you anymore. That little girl in there? She’s your blood. Your
responsibility.”
I ran a hand through my hair, my frustration bubbling to the surface.
“I don’t know how to be a father, Caleb.” I snapped, looking at my beta whose eyes softened for a moment before he returned to his
casual teasing demeanor.
“No one does, Dominic. But you either step up, or you don’t. And if you don’t, someone else will.” He said, making me raise an
eyebrow. 1
Even the thought sent a cold wave through my chest. One that I did not want to think about right now.
Eloise was strong, capable. If I pushed her away, she wouldn’t wait for me.
She would leave.
And this time, she wouldn’t come back.
“I can’t let that happen. Eloise cannot take my daughter away from me, I am not going to allow her to even try
my fists as my voice darkened.
