After graduation, she turned down the chance to study abroad, choosing instead to work as Javon’s secretary in the Bradford Group.

He knew exactly what she wanted, but he’d never once thought to give it to her.

“Okay. Her breathing steadied, the calm in her tone belying the storm inside.
Behind her, Shayla’s cheerful voice called for a group photo. Javon ignored Jaelynn and strode away.
Outside the hotel, Jaelynn’s phone buzzed with a notification.
It was an Instagram post from Shayla, “Today is the happiest day of my life because I met the most important person.”
In the photo, Shayla sat surrounded by gifts. Front and center was the diamond ring from Javon.
In the comments, Shayla had even tagged Jaelynn to thank her.
Jaelynn glanced at it once, then tapped “like” without a word.
