Her eyes were almost in arm’s reach.
Even though I knew nothing could be seen from outside, under her seemingly piercing gaze, I completely froze.

Suddenly, from behind me, the boy’s low murmur, laced with a faint smile, reached my
ears:
“Sister, are you that… *tense*?”
The canine tooth, which had been gently nipping my nape, retreated.
The sharp sting had barely registered before it was covered by a warm, wet sensation.
His slightly hurried breath fanned my neck.
“If you’re so afraid of being found out, why did you provoke me in the first place?”
“How about… I roll down the window and tell them to get lost, hmm?”
That was the first time I subtly sensed the wild streak lurking within him.
After a long moment without a response, Chloe’s expression stiffened slightly.
A flicker of displeasure crossed her eyes.
She tugged at Alex behind her, and he stepped forward.
“Mr. Ryder, I’m Alex Thorne of Thorne Enterprises.”
“My girlfriend needs your autograph.”
As he spoke, his tone carried an undisguised arrogance.
As if he was certain Jax Ryder wouldn’t refuse him, given his status.
After two seconds of silence, Jax Ryder suddenly let out a cold scoff.
He grabbed his jacket from beside him, pulled it over my head, obscuring my face.
Before I could react, he pushed open the car door, took a long stride, and stepped out.
Through the jacket, everything was invisible.

The world was just a blur of light and shadow.
And Jax Ryder’s ice–cold, mocking voice:
“Tsk, never heard of you.”
Alex said in a deep voice: “What did you say?”
“I said, I don’t know you.”
Jax Ryder spoke each word distinctly. “What, are you an idiot? Can’t understand plain English?”
Alex, pampered and fawned over by everyone, had never been publicly humiliated like this.
Even without seeing his face, I could imagine his grim and ugly expression.
I couldn’t help but curve my lips into a small smile.
“Oh, is that…”
Chloe suddenly shrieked.

Before she could finish, Jax Ryder cut her off: “Does it concern you?”
“Please, get lost, okay?”
