That night, I had a few drinks.
I dreamt of the first time I met Jax Ryder.
He had just transferred back to the country from an international team.
Young, he was already one of the hottest players in the entire e–sports scene.
At a not–so–small business dinner, he was one of the focal points of attention.

I was taking my wine glass to the garden when I happened to run into him.
I offered a gentle, friendly smile: “Hello, Mr. Ryder, I’m Eve Cross.”
“Oh, I know you.”
He replied lazily, “Inside, they were calling you the ‘Ninja Turtle‘ earlier.”
“When I came out, I saw your husband speeding off with his girlfriend.”
My smile didn’t falter: “I know.”
“You’re not angry?”
“Not angry.”
“Don’t you want revenge?”
“How would I get revenge?”
Under the soft moonlight, his young face was impossibly handsome, and his pupils held a hint of sharp light.
A sudden wave of drunkenness made me lean closer to him.
“Could it be, Mr. Ryder, that you’d be willing to be my eye–for–an–eye partner?”
Jax Ryder burst out laughing:
“Sister, I don’t have such… peculiar tastes.”
I blinked: “That’s a shame, then.”
As I spoke, I started to pull away.
But he grabbed my wrist.
“Giving up so easily?”

The boy raised an eyebrow. “Perhaps if you said a few more words, I might just be
tempted?”
The sudden ring of my phone woke me from my dream.
I answered, and Jax Ryder’s voice came through.
“Eve, I’m downstairs at your place.”
