Chapter 23
After the scandal, Hannah’s reputation was completely ruined.
Her art career was over, and the entire fine arts community blacklisted her. The backlash even dragged down the Lopez Group’s stock value.
During the second half of her senior year, she never returned to school, only sending someone to
collect her diploma on her behalf.
Elijah, on the other hand, successfully graduated and grew increasingly confident in her work at Eternal Light Corp. Outside of her job, she even entered several painting competitions.
This time, there were no dirty tricks or sabotage, she won every single first prize fair and square.
Her reputation within the industry soared.
As part of the company’s reward, the employee apartment where she and her mother lived was
officially transferred to her name.
Since leaving the Morgan household, Leah couldn’t sit idle. Eventually, she opened a small
restaurant on the first floor of Eternal Light Corp’s headquarters.
Years of experience as a housekeeper had given her excellent cooking skills, and her dishes,
delicious and reasonably priced, quickly became popular.
Business grew steadily, and before long, the restaurant was turning in a handsome profit.
When Elijah saw Ethan again, she almost didn’t recognize him.
She had already been out of school for over two years and had recently been promoted at work.
Eternal Light Corp, riding the momentum of the “Internet Scandal” years ago, had grown rapidly
and was now emerging as an industry leader.
The once proud and untouchable Morgan heir was a shell of a man. Ethan looked like a vagrant, his
clothes unkempt, his eyes hollowed out, and his face aged far beyond his twenties.
He stared at her for a long moment, his lips trembling as if he had a thousand things to say. In the
end, he only rasped out one hoarse sentence:
“Are you… doing okay?”
Elijah gave a soft laugh, almost amused:

“Me? Of course I am.”
“Ever since I walked away from your family, everything in my life has fallen into place. I’ve been
better than ever.”
Ethan’s smile was a twisted, broken thing.
“I remember now, Elijah.”
“In our past life, it was all my fault. I let Hannah Lopez blind me… I wronged you.”
“Cindy… I wasn’t worthy of being Cindy’s father. I—”
Elijah’s expression turned cold as she cut him off sharply.
“Enough! Ethan, you have no right to even say Cindy’s name!”
She drew in a deep breath, a bitter smile tugging at her lips.
“Oh, so you finally remember? Good. Then you should also take a long, hard look at the truth–see just how spectacularly you’ve failed, no matter this life or the last.”
“In our past life, you blamed everything on me. You cost Cindy her life, and you ruined mine, too. And now, in this life, you push all the blame onto Hannah–sure, she’s not innocent, but…”
“Tell me, Ethan, isn’t you are the real problem yourself?”
“You were blind, shallow, arrogant, selfish. You never once tried to see the truth.“.
Her words dripped with sarcasm.
“What right do you have to blame anyone else?”
“Don’t come looking for me again, Ethan, I want nothing to do with you.”
She didn’t spare him another glance, ignoring the tears that welled up in his heading back to the office without hesitation.

Later, Elijah heard the news:
One night, while walking home, Ethan was attacked by a deranged woman. He was stabbed over
thirty times and died right there.
The attacker was institutionalized at a psychiatric hospital.

That woman’s name? Hannah Lopez.
After her career collapsed and her family went bankrupt, her mental health had spiraled beyond repair.
The Morgan family’s patriarch buried his son quietly and, on the same day, brought his illegitimate son home, the one who, ironically, was a year older than Ethan.
Mrs. Morgan, upon hearing of her son’s death, had a mental breakdown and was committed to the psychiatric hospital, ironically, in the ward right next to Hannah’s.
Elijah first heard the gossip in Eternal Light’s break room. Her face remained calm and unreadable as she turned and headed back toward her office.
She turned, heading back to her office, but halfway down the hall, warm, familiar arms wrapped
around her from behind.
The embrace was warm and familiar, and she couldn’t stop the faint smile tugging at her lips.
Seeing that she didn’t panic at all, the voice behind her turned dramatically mournful:
“Oh, you heartless little thing…”
“Your poor husband–to–be is wasting away in misery, longing endlessly for the day you finally make an honest man out of him…”
Elijah couldn’t hold back her laughter anymore. She turned in his arms, gazing into those bright, love–filled eyes, and teased softly:
“Don’t say I didn’t warn you–the clock’s ticking, and chances like this don’t come twice.”
“Today happens to be the anniversary of the day we first met. And wouldn’t you know it–I heard Chanel just released a bag priced exactly the same as today’s date…”
The man’s entire face lit up as he shouted with joy.
“Buy it! Buy ten! No–buy a hundred! My baby! My gorgeous wife!”
