Chapter 20
Ethan’s fingers trembled, clutching the document so tightly his knuckles turned white. His voice, tight with a panic he couldn’t hide, came out in a quiver.
“No. I don’t agree.”
“You’ve lived in the Morgan estate your whole life. If you leave now, where would you even go?”
For once, the ever–proud young master of the Morgan family, Ethan, finally showed a flicker of
panic.
“Let’s just put everything in the past, alright? From now on, we can start fresh and live a good life
together. Your mom has worked for the Morgans for over ten years–the family can take care of her
for the rest of her life.
“Elijah, if you want, I’ll introduce you to everyone as my foster sister, the Morgan family’s eldest
daughter. But if you still want… if you still want to be with me, I–I can marry-‘
At this point, Hannah Lopez didn’t even exist in Ethan’s mind anymore. He had completely forgotten that, just a while ago, they were still calling each other “boyfriend” and “girlfriend.”
But Elijah’s expression stayed cold as ice. She cut him off sharply.
“Enough! Do you remember what I told you back when you forced me to go on that blind date with
Ivan?”
Ethan’s face turned pale as his lips pressed tightly together.
“My condition was simple–when I decide to leave, you don’t get to stop me.” Her voice was calm,
but every word carried a blade’s edge.
“Ethan, I don’t want to be your foster sister. I don’t want to be the Morgan family’s ‘adopted
daughter.“”
The memories of their past flashed in her mind, bitter and suffocating. That so–called marriage in her previous life… now it only left her with disgust and loathing.
“I just want us to be strangers from now on. Let’s pretend we never even knew each other.”
She had already made up her mind. This time, nothing could hold her back.
Ethan clenched his fists, but deep down, he knew the truth: even if he begged, even if he tried

everything, she was already gone. He could no longer stop her.
Elijah exhaled softly, her lips curling into the faintest smile.
“Before I go, though, I have a little something for you. A farewell gift.”
She took out a small voice recorder, pressed play, and Hannah’s sharp, mocking voice filled the Morgan residence.
Every single thing Hannah had done.
Posting those scandalous threads, mocking and humiliating Elijah behind her back, intentionally
setting her up with Ivan to watch her squirm…
It was all right there, spoken in Hannah’s own voice, undeniable and damning.
One by one, her arrogant, sneering words poured into the room, cutting deep like invisible whips.
“I say whatever I want, and Ethan believes me anyway. Even if you cry out your innocence, so
what?”
Every sentence was a hard, resounding slap across Ethan’s face.
The man who once swore, again and again, “Hannah would never have bad intentions,” stood there trembling, his knuckles whitening, rage simmering beneath his skin.
Finally, the recording ended. The silence that followed was deafening.
Elijah tilted her head, her eyes gleaming with cold amusement.
“Oh, and by the way…” Her tone dripped with venom.
“You and Hannah are actually a match made in heaven–an idiot and a snake.”
She smiled sweetly, like twisting a knife deeper into his chest.
“I sincerely wish you both a long, blissful marriage… with plenty of kids.”
Ethan’s bloodshot eyes burned red, his chest rising and falling sharply.
At that moment, Leah, Elijah’s mother, stepped forward, her voice low but steady.
“Mr. Morgan… do you still remember what happened eight years ago?”
Ethan froze, his expression blank.

Leah had worked for the Morgans for over a decade. She had once treated Ethan like her own son.
“Eight years ago, you fell into the pond and almost drowned.” Her voice trembled just slightly, but her gaze stayed locked on his.
“It was me who dragged you out. I saved your life.”
Ethan’s throat tightened. He hadn’t expected this.
“But I never thought,” Leah continued, her voice deepening, “that five years later, you’d turn around and humiliate my daughter like this.”
“She was barely eighteen then, Ethan. Eighteen. You two grew up together. Did you really not have a
heart?”
Ethan’s body was wracked with a violent shudder. He didn’t know what to say, didn’t even know
where to look.
Leah’s gaze was cold and sharp, her words slicing through the heavy silence.
“You know… after finding out what you did to my daughter, I regretted saving you.
})
“If I had known you would hurt Elijah like this, Ethan, I would have stood there and watched you drown with my own eyes.”
She exhaled slowly, as though lifting a weight off her chest.
Then, without sparing Ethan another glance, she turned, took Elijah’s hand, and walked away
without looking back.
Ethan stood frozen in place, his chest tightening painfully, until his knees buckled beneath him.
One of the Morgan housekeepers let out a sharp scream and ran forward.
“Ethan!”
“Call an ambulance! Hurry! Ethan’s collapsed!”
