Chapter

The moment I stepped into the pack house, a gush of cold water came down on me

The wind cut through my soaked clothes, making me shiver uncontrollably

Willow, I was filling up the pond. Why didn’t you say anything before coming back?”

Maxic stood there holding a hose, but only after I was completely drenched did she finally lower it

Blinking the water out of my eyes, I noticed something even more jarring. The roses I had tended in the backyard for years, had been dug up and tossed aside on the lawn

In its place, the servants were turning the plot into a pond, planting water lilies

I didn’t say a word. I turned to leave..

But with my clothes sticking to me, cold seeping deep into my bones, I barely managed a few steps before my body shook with another violent shiver

Inside the pack house, Xander and Lucas sat in the living room

When they saw me dripping wet, they exchanged a glance, sneers tugging at their lips

Their eyes said it all. They thought I was just putting on an act

willow, so you still remember to come back? I thought you weren’t coming at all”

Lucas chimed in after Xander’s word, his voice dripping with mockery

Yeah. Her dad died, her mom dragged her useless daughter to our pack. It’s not like they had anywhere else to go.”

A sharp pain stabbed through my chest

I suddenly remembered the day I first arrived at this pack. Lucas had held my hand so tightly, afraid I’d be nervous, entertaining me with his quick wit

Willow,he had said, from now on this is your pack, your home.”

Xander had even given me the biggest, most comfortable bedroom in the house. Later, even after he bought more houses, he always kept that one for me

When he became Alpha, he bought a new house near the pack and put it under my name, promising it would be our shared home. But then Maxie came along as my assistant

She started walking freely in and out of the pack house, into our rooms, into that house

She clung to Xander and Lucas every chance she got, while trying everything possible to make them resent me

At first, knowing she came from a poor family, I let things slide

But then she went too far. One day she smashed a keepsake left by my father, right in front of me

I had confronted her, furious

But before I could even react, Xander pulled me back

Maxie’s had a hard life. Why are you picking on an omega?”

Lucas joined in too

She just turned of age. You’re older, why can’t you show a little patience?”

That was the first time I felt truly lost, staring at the pleces of my father’s broken memento

From that moment on, something shifted. I stopped mattering to them

Maxie, who had once been just my assistant, gradually replaced me as the mistress of the house, forcing me to leave as soon as possible

After all this, I have no intention of staying here a moment longer

I looked at the house which was in a mess, and only one thought consumed me: I need to pack my bags and depart now

But when I went upstairs, I found my belongings tossed into the hallway randomly

Xander, with Maxie on his arm, was ordering the servants to carry my stuff out

The way they looked at me was dripping with the arrogance of victors

Willow, you and your mother are nothing but strays this pack has taken in. If you don’t know your place, you’d better learn. From now on, you don’t need to handle pack matters or participate in training. Maxie will take over your duties. Swap places with her and work hard as an assistant. Maybe it’ll keep you too busy to disturbing other pack members.”

Lucas, trying to impress Maxie, Went further. He smashed the birthday gift Glinda had given me

Willow, you’d better not cause trou

trouble for Maxie again. Otherwise, I won’t hold back.”

The old me would’ve broken down, lost sleep for nights over this humiliation

But now, I was leaving. I am tired with arguing with them

So I smiled and nodded lightly

You’re right. Everything you said is right.”

I’ll move out soon.”

Since Alpha Xander thinks I’m useless and holding the pack back, then I’ll leave the pack altogether.”

Xander smirked coldly

po bad for you the

You really are just like Maxie said, only knowing how to cling to us. But too bad for you, this pack is ours. Don’t expect a single coin from me.”

He paused, then added, Out of pity for your mother, I’ll let it slide though not so willingly. I’ll even give you a maid’s position.”

But remember, in my eyes, that’s all you’ll ever be worth. Don’t dream of more

I walked past him without looking back

Quietly, I said, In your dream.”

This place had once been filled with warm memories

But in the end, it was never really my home
