Chapter 1
Just as I stepped out of the pack hall, my phone buzzed. It was Xander, the older of the Alpha twins. His voice was sharp, edged with
displeasure.
“Willow, why did you leave training without saying a word? Didn’t I tell you to wait for Maxie?”
On the other end, Lucas, Xander’s younger brother, chimed in with the same reproach.
Exactly! You slipped out early without telling us. Maxie’s still at the pack hall. Now who’s supposed to walk her home?”
I glanced at my reflection in the glass window
Even though I was a werewolf, my face looked pale, my frame so Trail it seemed a gust of wind might knock me over.
I was born premature, fragile and sickly all my life.
When I first arrived at the Bloodstone Pack, the twins had gone out of their way to look after me.
During our childhood, they had carefully monitored my diet
When illness left me bedridden, they nursed me with patience and invented little games to make me smile
Once, when Xander was away at the Northern Border for the Alpha Ball, I’d complained of a headache. And he rushed home through the night just to check on me.
But after Maxie appeared, everything changed.
My migraines? They couldn’t care less.
Me sickness? It doesn’t even register on their radar anymor
I hung up the call in silence. Once in the car, I dialed Glinda’s number.
“Mom, I’ve decided. I’m willing to go through with the arranged mate bond with the royals‘ Alpha.
There was a pause on the line. “Willow, are you sure?”
When my parents ended their mate bond, I went to live with my father in our old pack. By the time I was eight, he had fallen ill and passed away. That was when my mother, now Luna Glinda of the Bloodstone Pack, took me in
Back then, she had said: “Willow, if you want to stay here, you must win Alpha Victor’s favor, and that of his twin sons.”
Later, she told me: “Alpha Victor wants an alliance with the royals. You can consider marrying the future Alpha King, Alpha Griffin.”
I hadn’t understood then why Glinda insisted on tying me to such a union, especially when she once wanted me rooted in the Bloodstone Pack
Now, I finally understood. She had always been sharper than me. She knew I was nothing more than a plaything for the twins‘ idle amusement, and so she paved an escape route for me from the very beginning
I unlocked my phone, ready to book a flight, when a new message from Maxle came, attached a photo.
(True love only strikes when you least expect it. Thanks for the gift of fate.)
The photo showed her flaunting a pair of moonstone bracelets on her wrists, standing in the very greenhouse which used to belong to
Those bracelets were the twins” planned birthday gift for me. And now, they clasped her arms.
I blocked Maxie on the spot.
“Mom, I mean it,” I said again. “I’m ready to marry into the royals.”
“Alright,” Glinda replied. “I’ll inform Alpha Victor. The royals already picked a date. Wednesday is ideal for the bonding ceremony.

Make sure you set out early for the wolf castle.”
I murmured a quiet “Okay.”
Maybe she had sensed something, because before hanging up she added softly: “Willow, talk to them properly this time.”
I didn’t answer. Instead, I tilted my head back, gazing at the sky above.
Six days.
That
all the time I had left to say a proper farewell to everything.
