Chapter 9
Keith quietly arrived at the gallery.
Anna was introducing paintings to a guest, not knowing what that chubby, big–eared middle–aged man said.
Anna suddenly giggled coyly, leaned in, and kissed his lips.
At that moment, Keith felt as if struck by lightning.
Actually, he knew those photos weren’t fake.
But he still didn’t want to believe that such a pure Anna could do this.
But now, seeing it with his own eyes, he had to believe.
Tears streaming down, Keith murmured:
“Anna, why are you doing this to me?”
He wanted to raise his hand to wipe his tears, but found his right hand was gone.
Instantly sober, Keith realized he had become a cripple for such a bitch.
His later life was completely ruined.
Filled with hatred, Keith closed his eyes.
He would never let Anna off.
Late at night, Keith sneaked into Anna’s home.

But Anna wasn’t home; not until dawn did she return, drunk.
Marks all over her body, Keith wasn’t a fool; he knew exactly what she had done.
Heart aching, Keith still wanted an explanation.
“Anna, tell me, you did nothing, right?”
Anna sneered, looked at Keith with disdain, lazily leaned on the sofa, and mocked:
“Keith, don’t you get it yet?
I never liked you.”
“At first, I thought you were rich because you wore brand names, so I played along.”
“Turns out you spent Margaret’s money, just a kept man.

“I’ve long stopped wanting to waste time with you; why are you so stupid?”
She glared at Keith with disgust:
“Look at you now, a cripple; am I crazy to be with you?
Get lost already.”
Keith remained silent for a long time, just staring intently at Anna.
Anna felt uneasy under his gaze, was about to urge him, when Keith smiled.
That smile was eerily terrifying:

“Fine, since that’s how it is, let’s die together.”
Saying this, he lunged at Anna with all his strength.
Caught off guard, he stabbed a knife into Anna’s chest.
Anna had no time to resist; eyes wide, she collapsed to the ground.
She was too smug, thinking Keith, a useless man, couldn’t harm her.
Never imagined the power of hatred was so great.
With a squelch, Keith pulled out the knife.
Anna’s blood splattered on his face, yet he felt strangely pleased.
Good, everything was over.
He had no strength left; lying on the ground, he held Anna in his arms, then slit his wrist.
Whether Anna loved him or not, she would be with him.
Consciousness fading, Keith suddenly remembered.
When he was buried under rubble, it was Margaret who saved him.
With her delicate hands, she dug through the rubble, giving him new life.
She accompanied him worldwide seeking treatment, letting him regain his right hand.
She gave up her career for him, taking on debt.
They got married, supporting each other for ten years.

Yet he slit his wrist because of Anna’s scorn.
Causing Margaret to be beaten to death by his parents.
Keith suddenly struggled violently, shoving Anna away with tears streaming down his face.
“Margaret, I was wrong, I truly know I was wrong.
“I regret it, she wasn’t worth my love. Save me, save me one more time, please?”
But his struggle held no meaning.
Keith weakly closed his eyes, dying with unresolved anguish.
Hearing Keith and Anna died together, I felt nothing.
This no longer concerned me.
Michael and Lisa couldn’t bear the shock, fell gravely ill, and returned to their hometown.
I was busy expanding the business overseas.
Six months later, the company went public; two years after, it ranked among the global top 100.
Standing atop the corporate tower, I gazed out peacefully, long having forgotten the unrequited love for that man.
Henceforth the world is vast and bright, the road ahead radiant and untroubled.
