Chapter 13
The very next day, I saw Edward and Theo again.
Theo ran up and hugged me tightly.
“Mom! We finally found you!”
In the past, he only ever hugged Amelia like that.
Edward wore his usual calm expression, but his tone was confident. “It’s been a year.”
“Grace, I’ve been looking for you for a whole year.”
“Have you cooled down?”
Of course it was hard to find me.
They didn’t even have a single photo of me.
Once, on my birthday, I suggested we go to the county to take a family portrait.
None of them agreed.
I gently pushed Theo away.
“You’ve got the wrong person.”
Theo’s eyes welled up. “Mom… are you abandoning me?”
Edward’s expression darkened. “He dreams of you, everyday.”
“He wakes up crying from those dreams.”
“Grace, he’s your biological child
how can you
be so heartless?”
Heartless?
When it came to being heartless, how could I possibly compare to them?
In my last life, the final time we saw each other, they had stood there and watched me flee in shame for me.
I’ve come back in this life to live for myself.
Ethan suddenly interrupted. “She’s Grace?”
“The Grace you’ve been searching for all year?”
He blurted out, “No way! She told me her husband and son died because of her jinx!”
Edward’s face immediately darkened.

Chapter 14
When Ethan Kensington found out what had happened, he immediately became protective.
“So, it just wasn’t meant to be?”
He clapped Edward on the shoulder. “Edward, if it’s not fated, don’t force it.”
Edward shot him a cold glare. “You don’t want your Panamera anymore?”
Ethan looked conflicted but clenched his jaw. “Cars can always be replaced. But a wife–once she’s gone, she’s gone for good!”
Edward paused. That hit right where it hurt.
Fuming, he snapped, “She’s your cousin–in–law!”
Ethan stood his ground. “Then why is she here all by herself?”
“That’s enough!”
I finally stepped in to put an end to the farce.
“Both of you get out.”
Ethan naturally refused, but Edward dragged him away by force.
Yet Edward left Theo behind.
Before he left, he said, “Wait for me. I’ll be back.”
After he was gone, Theo and I stared at each other in silence.
He was delighted, chattering away about his past year.

He talked about his heavy schoolwork, how a single mistake earned him a slap on the hand.
He said Amelia ignored him now, busy fawning over Mrs. Smith, his grandmother.
He told me how much he missed me.
So, he hadn’t been doing well after all.
But deep down, he was just as self–centered as in our previous life.
In that life, he probably hadn’t been doing well either.
But Edward never once thought of bringing him to find me.
Eventually, he just adapted to life with the Kensingtons.
In truth, Amelia hadn’t made the wrong choice.
The status of Mrs. Smith was irreplaceable.
Edward felt guilty toward her, and his father adored her.
That’s how Amelia rose to power in the past life–slowly manipulating her way into favor.
But this time, my departure had shaken Edward. That’s why he was different now.
Still, Theo was my child. I couldn’t kick him out.
He lit up. “I want Mommy’s red bean dessert!”
