She had sworn to me she would get an abortion. Then she went to Michael, fell to her knees, and wept about how this was her one and only chance at motherhood. She said she had nothing else to live for, that the baby was the only thing that could save her. She promised she would never interfere in our marriage.
Michael’s heart melted. He asked me to let her keep the child.
When I refused and scheduled the appointment for her myself, she ended her life in our home. Michael blamed me. The grief turned him into a monster. He kept me prisoner until my own child was due, and then he let us both die.
This time, I didn’t argue.
“She’s carrying your child, Michael,” I said, my voice calm. “It’s between the two of you. I have no opinion.”
His angry expression froze, replaced by suspicion. “You don’t mind? You’re really okay with another woman having my baby?”
I gave a small, serene smile and nodded. This time, I wanted nothing to do with him. So, no, I didn’t mind.
He pulled me into a grateful hug. “Anna, you’re always so understanding. Don’t worry, you’re the only one I love. The baby with Lily was just… an accident. It won’t change anything between us. You will always be my wife, and our baby is the only one I will ever truly claim as my own.”
He rushed off to tell Lily the good news. I quietly slipped out and went to the hospital.
After the procedure, I called my best friend, who had been begging me to join her tech startup in Singapore.
“I’m in,” I said. “My flight is in a week.”
She was speechless for a moment. “What? What changed your mind? And what about Michael? He’s obsessed with you. He’ll never let you go, especially not while you’re pregnant.”
“I’m not pregnant anymore.” I said, my voice flat. “He doesn’t know. Keep this between us. I’ll explain everything later.”
