Chapter 6
That day, I had my lawyer deliver a message to him.
I was drafting divorce papers demanding he leave with nothing but the clothes on his back, effective immediately.
Preston seemed to still harbor hope, calling me obsessively.
Until I blocked all his contact methods and finally had peace.]
The next day, I led a team straight into Preston’s office.[]
He had dark circles under his eyes–dearly hadn’t slept all night.[]
After seeing who was behind me, he stared in shock
“Sophia Sullivan, what are you doing!”
I made room for the officers behind me as they solemnly showed their badges
“Preston Blackwell, you’re suspected of vehicular manslaughter due to drunk driving, Please come with us for questioning.“[]
Preston’s face changed drastically, but he forced himself to stay calm and stand up.
“Officers, I’ve never done such a thing. My wife and I had a fight recently–she’s throwing a tantrum, just joking around.”
The lead officer pulled out documents. “We don’t arrest people without evidence. You’d better come with us.”
Preston grabbed the papers and read them carefully.
After going through them several times, large beads of sweat formed on his forehead.]]
He was looking for a way out.
If he went with them obediently, everyone would see.
The mighty CEO Preston being escorted out by police would be social death.
But vehicular manslaughter was fact–the police were already here, and he had no escape.]
He looked up at me with growing desperation.]
“Sophia Sullivan, I never thought you were this kind of person! What happened last year–1 already apologized to you. I can’t believe you’re so scheming, hiding evidence this whole time!”
I snorted coldly. “When it comes to scheming, Fm not even a tenth as good as you! If I hadn’t discovered you going around destroying surveillance evidence back then, I never would have thought to keep that footage.”
Preston was speechless, his face dark as thunder.
Two officers moved to handcuff him, but I politely stopped them.
“Sorry, please give us a bit more time.”
A flash of hope appeared in Preston’s eyes as his tone softened: “Honey, you still can’t bear to let me go, right? I can go to prison to atone for you and our child–you need to find a way to get me out early.”
I didn’t respond, simply pulling the divorce papers from my bag. “Sign this before you go in.”
Seeing the title. Preston frowned deeply. “I won’t sign!”
I didn’t want to argue further, efficiently putting the documents away. “Then wait for me to sue you.”
On our way downstairs, we passed through the office space and the company lobby.]
Seeing the police and handcuffed Preston, employees couldn’t help standing up to stare.]
Some even pulled out phones to record videos.
I was certain that within half an hour, news of Preston being arrested on criminal charges would spread nationwide.]]
It was all what he deserved.
Later, Preston was detained pending investigation.]
Besides providing surveillance footage and medical records, I also found witnesses from the restaurant that night.
Although it had been over half a year, the restaurant staff still remembered their regular customer Preston’s behavior that evening.
Preston told me then that clients had forced him to drink
But the server’s testimony was that he’d been in high spirits, drinking everything–wine, liquor–getting all the clients drunk, then trying to drag them up to drink more with him.]
Moreover, despite everyone’s warnings, he’d insisted on drunk driving.
While he was locked up, I sent people to investigate his assets.
Having finally gotten him imprisoned, I was determined to keep him there for a long, long time!]
Sure enough, they discovered he’d registered a shell company on an overseas island.
He’d long used his position to conduct fake transactions between his company and the corporation, embezzling over a hundred million dollars through empty schemes, even making Summer a high–level executive.]]
Summer had been an executive before joining our corporation, proving they’d been together from the start.]
Looking at these investigation results, only rage remained in my heart.]
That money–I’d make them spit out every penny![]
