Chapter 8
I sneered, not bothering to hide my disgust.[]
“Riley, you promised you’d be with my brother. Why are you trying to back out now?“]
That one sentence made me laugh out loud.[]
“Are you insane? When did I ever say I’d be with your brother?“]
My bluntness made Jessica’s mouth twitch.
Then, she craned her neck and shouted at me.]
Riley, what’s wrong with you? We all agreed on it at the engagement party. You can’t go back on your word.“[]
She raised her voice, drawing a larger crowd of onlookers.]]
For a moment, I was at a loss, glancing around at the gathering people.]
Her family seemed to have realized I was easily embarrassed.]]
They sat right down on the pavement and started making a scene.
“How can there be such a woman? She promised to be our daughter–in–law, and now she’s backing out!“]
“My son doesn’t even mind that she used to sell herself, and now she’s disowning him!”]
Just then, a company employee in the crowd recognized me.]
After hearing what they were shouting, they tried to intervene.]
“You must have the wrong person. This is the young lady of the Sterling Corporation, the billionaire’s daughter.“]]
As they spoke, they couldn’t help but size up the family with a look of disdain.
“There’s no way she’d be interested in your son.“[]
Hearing this, Jessica’s mother’s eyes hardened, and she scrambled up from the ground.[
She pointed a finger in the employee’s face and started screaming.
“What bullshit are you spouting? Believe it or not, I’ll rip your mouth off!“]
“My son is the apple of our family’s eye! He’s more than good enough for a billionaire’s daughter!“]
“You little slut, you’re coming with us right now to get your marriage license!“]

But the next second, she was blocked by a group of bodyguards in black suits.[]
Jessica’s family were all bullies who picked on the weak and feared the strong. The sight of the bodyguards made them shrink back.
But then their eyes fell on the Sterling Tower beside them, and they swallowed hard.[]
Tyler’s eyes darted around, and he pulled a stack of photos from his pocket.]
They were pornographic pictures of various men and women, but my face had been poorly photoshopped onto all the female bodies.
“Come on, everyone, take a look! So–called billionaire’s daughter? I’ve already worn her out in bed!“[]
“So you have no choice but to marry me.‘

My face darkened as I gave an order to the head of security.
“Call the police.”
“And if you see them again, throw them as far away as you can. If they dare to come back, break their legs.“[]
There was no softness in my voice. God only knew how much I wanted to take a knife and rid myself of these pests for good.
Without giving them another glance, I turned to leave.]
But Jessica, like a feral animal, bit down hard on the hand of the bodyguard holding her back.
She rushed in front of me.[]
She grabbed me tightly and fell to her knees, begging.]
“I was wrong, please, save me.“]]
“I didn’t mean to bring them here. I owe too much money, and the debt collectors came to my house.”
“Our house is gone. If those people come back, I’ll have nowhere to run. I’ll be dead.“[]
“I have no other choice, I really don’t. You’re so rich, help me, please, help me.“]]
She knelt and bowed her head to the ground as she spoke, and I could clearly hear the sickening thud of her forehead hitting the pavement.[]
Jessica’s body trembled uncontrollably. She was truly terrified.]
But when she had stabbed me, again and again, I had been terrified, too.
“Back then, I begged you, too. I begged you to spare me.“]
Jessica’s bowing stopped. She remembered me from that day.]]
I had clutched her clothes, pleading, while she had just stabbed harder, more viciously.[]

She looked up and met my eyes. Her expression had changed to one of mania, and I could even see murderous intent.
“That’s right. It was only after I killed you that things turned out this way.‘
“So if I kill you again, I can choose again, right?“]]
