Chapter 25: Proving Her Innocence
Steven’s face darkened. He turned to the patient’s family.
“I’ve tried to persuade her, but Doctor Ulrich refuses to apologize or compensate you. If you need legal support, Price Group will provide you with lawyers free of charge. From today, Doctor Ulrich will face your lawsuits in court.”
Wendy’s heart jolted, her body trembling uncontrollably.
Madman!
Steven was insane.
Just to force her back, he was siding with strangers to sue her.
With his influence, no matter her innocence, she would surely lose. And her career–ruined forever.
Her teeth clenched, she seized Steven’s collar, fury blazing in her eyes.
“Steven, have you no shame? We’re divorced! Why are you still hounding me? You cheated first–why won’t you let me go?”
Her voice shook with defiance and unwillingness.
She had given everything, even her sense of self. All she wanted now was a new life, yet these people still refused to release her.
Steven smirked, mocking, smug.
“Now you panic? Isn’t it a little late? If you’d apologized earlier, come home earlier, none of this would’ve happened. Or… if you kneel and knock your head a few times, maybe I’ll speak on your behalf.”
“You’re despicable!”
Wendy’s rage burned so hot she wanted to kill him.
“I’ll uncover the truth myself and clear my name. If you want to help them sue me, go ahead. One day, you’ll pay for what you’ve done.”
She shoved him aside, turning to leave.
His voice followed, chilling.
“Doctor Ulrich, aren’t you going to discuss compensation with the family?”
The families surged again, surrounding her like demons from hell.
“He’s right–you must compensate us!”
“My mother could’ve lived to eighty! If not for you, she wouldn’t have died. You owe us half a million, or you won’t walk out of this hospital!”
Wendy shot Steven a withering glare, then forced herself to explain,
“This wasn’t my fault. But I promise I’ll find the truth and give you an explanation. As for-”
“We don’t care about your excuses! She’s dead in your hands! Pay up–or die like her!”
Their shouts battered her, leaving her cornered, powerless.
Why should she bear this? She’d done nothing wrong. Hadn’t she suffered enough?

Chapter 25: Proving Her Innocence
“I can prove Doctor Ulrich’s innocence.”
A cool, steady voice cut through the noise like frost in winter,
Wendy froze. Her heart stilled.
Harry strode forward with a file in hand, his gaze briefly grazing Steven, black eyes glinting with ice.
Steven’s face twisted.
“Harry, this is between me and Wendy. What business is it of yours?”
A soft laugh.
“Doctor Ulrich is my friend. Her business is naturally mine.”
He handed the file to the family.
“My investigation shows her patient’s hemorrhage wasn’t her doing. It was deliberate sabotage. This is the culprit’s signed confession. He’s detained on the first floor. If you don’t believe me, you can question him yourselves.”
The families exchanged nervous looks, eyes darting with guilt.
One man blustered weakly,
“How do we know you’re not colluding with him?”
Harry’s gaze narrowed, sharp as a blade.
“If you doubt me, investigate it yourselves. But your mother is gone, and instead of arranging her funeral, you harass an innocent doctor? Hard not to suspect someone is using you to stir trouble.”
Their bravado crumbled.
Wendy exhaled slowly. So it really was a setup.
Harry concluded evenly,
“Believe me or not, sue if you wish. But we have witnesses and evidence. Whether you can win is another matter.”
Their bluster fizzled. None dared speak again.
At Harry’s signal, his men escorted them out. He turned back, his aura softening as he faced Wendy.
“Doctor Ulrich, you’ve been through enough.”
Gratitude welled in her chest.
“Mr. Robinson, thank you. Without you, I wouldn’t have known what to do.”
“You treat James. I handle the trouble. Fair trade. Besides… James just woke up. He misses you. If you’d see him, he’d be very happy.”
“All right.”
Their words left Steven standing forgotten, teeth grinding with hate–and doubt.
Why was Harry defending her so fiercely? She was merely his son’s doctor. He had no reason to go this far–unless…
Unless there was something deeper between them.

Chapter 25. Proving Her Innocence
Pulling out his phone. Steven’s tone was sharp as a whip.
“Investigate everything about Harry and Wendy. Twenty–four–hour surveillance. I want every detail reported to me!”
“So Queenie was behind this, and Steven only pushed it along?”
On the way to James’s ward. Harry explained what his men had found.
Wendy didn’t even blink
Of course Queenie would stoop this low. She wanted Wendy gone, erased–nothing was beneath her.
And Steven wasn’t blind. If he played along, it meant he already suspected her involvement.
Yet he still sided with her.
Worse than an animal.
“What will Doctor Ulrich do? Surely you won’t let them off so lightly?”
