Chapter 20: Blocked
“Steven, it’s all my fault…” Queenie sobbed into his arms.
Steven, consumed by worry, had no time for anger.
Michael. regaining his wits, turned and shrieked at Wendy.
“This is all your fault, you wicked woman! If not for you, Auntie Queenie wouldn’t be hurt!”
Then he buried himself in Queenie’s embrace.
“Auntie Queenie, don’t cry. Michael will protect you…”
The three huddled together in a picture–perfect tableau of family.
Wendy watched with cold disgust.
“Enough! This is a hospital, not your mating ground. Get out before you make me sick!”
Steven’s face darkened.

“Wendy, how can you talk like that? Queenie’s injured, and instead of concern, you spew venom? How cruel can you be?”
Wendy laughed bitterly.
She had been kidnapped, nearly violated, barely alive–and yet she was to blame?
Fine. Then no one would leave unscathed.
She snatched the hot water cup from the bedside table.
“Get out! All of you!”
Crash!
The cup struck Queenie’s face, scalding her cheek into blistering welts.
“My face! Steven, my face!”
“Don’t touch it! I’ll take you to the doctor now.”
Steven scooped her up, glaring murderously at Wendy before leaving.
“If anything happens to Queenie, Wendy, you’ll pay dearly!”
“I won’t forgive you either, Bad Woman!” Michael shouted, chasing after them.
Wendy lay back down, unmoved.
Stay in this house any longer, and she would go insane,
She needed to move out–immediately.
“Daddy, that bad mom is awful. From now on, Auntie Queenie is my only mommy. I don’t want the bad one anymore.”

Chapter 20: Blocked
On the drive home after Queenie’s treatment, Michael pouted, full of disdain.
Steven silently agreed.
That vicious woman was unfit to be a mother.
Queenie stroked the gauze on her cheek, her eyes glinting darkly.
She would never forgive Wendy.
Michael clung to her.
“Auntie Queenie, will you sleep with me tonight? Tell me a bedtime story?”
Revulsion flashed in her eyes. The brat was a nuisance.
But with Steven watching, she forced a smile.
“Of course.”
Then, calculating, she called up the stairs.
“Sister, we’re back! Come down–we’re going to dinner together.”
Silence.
“Don’t bother,” Steven said irritably. “We’ll eat without her.”
But Queenie persisted. Again, no response.
Steven stormed upstairs, kicked the bedroom door open-
Empty.
Even the little night lamp Wendy had cherished was gone.
A flicker of unease rippled in his chest.
He flung open the closet. Empty.
“Could she really have left home in anger?” Queenie widened her eyes in mock shock, though triumph flickered beneath.
Michael’s eyes sparkled with glee.
“Yay! The bad woman’s gone. Now Daddy, Auntie Queenie, and I can be happy forever!”
Steven frowned. Michael’s attachment to Queenie was growing… unsettling.
“Wendy is still your real mother. No matter what, you share blood.”
“I only have one mommy–and that’s Auntie Queenie!”
“You-!”
He was about to scold him, but Queenie tugged his arm sweetly.
“Steven, let’s look for Sister. She must be devastated. If we don’t find her, she’ll only hate us more.”
“Let her hate.” He slammed the closet shut.

“This is just another stunt. She’ll crawl back when she’s suffered enough.”
At first, her empty room had rattled him.
But then he remembered–Wendy had pulled tricks like this before. This was just another ploy for attention.
Let her sulk. She’d come crawling back.
“From now on, this house has no Wendy.”
Michael clapped.
“Daddy’s right! Without the bad mom, we’ll be happy with Auntie Queenie!”
Wendy had no idea how long she slept before her phone rang.
Groggy, she answered.
“Hello?”
“So you don’t even recognize me after half a day? Wendy, you’ve got guts.”
Steven’s furious voice snapped her awake.
“Oh, it’s you, Mr. Price. What is it?”
“I drank too much tonight. My stomach’s acting up. Buy me medicine and bring it to the usual place.”
Wendy laughed.
“Are you sick in the head? Why should I fetch medicine for you? Isn’t your Queenie kinder than me? Let her do it. I’m just a venomous woman–helpfulness isn’t in my nature.”
“You-”
But all he heard next was the cold beep of a disconnected line.
She had hung up on him.
Fuming, he dialed again.
“The number you have dialed has blocked you.”
She had blacklisted him.
