Chapter 10: She Finds Him Filthy
Face twisting, Steven lifted his head, bloodshot eyes drilling into her.
“You’d report me? As long as we’re still married, I can do whatever I want. What right do you have to refuse me?”
“Marital rape is still rape.” She’d calmed, a cold smile on her lips. “And given you’ve already been with Queenie–Steven, you’re filthy.”
What?
Rage exploded behind his eyes.
Filthy? She dared call him filthy?
“Get out. Step into my room again and I’ll make life hell for you and Queenie both.”
She couldn’t be bothered to argue and threw him out.
“Don’t you regret this,” he ground out, storming off.
The door shut, and she let out a long breath, legs giving way as she slid to the floor.
Regret? Hardly.
Still, her heart pounded. If he’d forced the issue, she might not have been able to stop him.
Thank god he didn’t push it.
He, meanwhile, stalked into the study, dropped into a chair, and dialed.
“Tell me if she isn’t crazy. We’re married–how is it wrong for me to want her? She rejected me. She even said I’m dirty. Who is she to say that?”
His buddy Zane Nelson merely chuckled–he’d heard it all before.
“Honestly, you’re too domineering. Women like gentleness. Send flowers, a gift, coax her a little–she won’t say no.”
Coax her?
Steven’s lips curled.
“Why should I? She chased me for years. Marrying her was already a favor. I’m supposed to pamper her on top of that? Dream on.”
Outside, passing with a tray of tea, Wendy caught every word.
So that’s what she was to him.
Back in her room, she sipped her tea and glanced at the calendar on the nightstand.
A little over twenty days until Miami.
After that, she and the Steven men would have nothing to do with each other.
She rested through the morning.

At noon she considered cooking–only to run into Steven in the hall with a bouquet and a boutique bag.

Before she could react, he shoved both into her arms, tone stiff.
“A make–up birthday gift. I know you’re upset, but after you accept this, I expect you to behave yourself and stop doing unnecessary things.”
Was that how you gave a gift?
Her mouth twitched. One look at the blazing red flowers and the deep–red gemstone inside the bag filled her with disdain.
She’d never liked loud colors. Queenie loved them.
If he truly meant the gift for her, would he choose Queenie’s taste?
It felt like an insult.
“Thanks, Mr. Price. I’ll keep it,” she said flatly, and headed downstairs.
Watching her back, his mood eased a notch.
Maybe Zane did know a thing or two.
While the soup simmered, she photographed the bouquet and the gem and posted them online for sale.
She didn’t like either–just holding them made her skin crawl.
Better to convert them to cash.
After ages, no buyer–just a call from Steven, furious.
“Very good, Wendy. I give you a gift at lunch and you list it for resale by afternoon. Is money all you see? For cash, would you do anything?”
He’d imagined she’d be grateful, softening into her old self.
Instead, she put it up for sale.
He’d paid over ten million for that gem–what right did she have to sell it?
If she loved money so much, he should’ve tossed her a few grand and saved himself the trouble.
She arched a brow, unmoved.
“Since it’s a gift, it’s mine to do with as I please. If you can’t stand it, don’t give me gifts. It’s not like I begged you–why are you yelling at me?”
“You-!”
He sputtered, but she hung up before he could continue, leaving his rage to ricochet around his chest.
This crazy woman.
If he ever gave her anything again, he was an idiot.
“Steven, don’t be angry,” Queenie cooed, adding oil to the fire. “Sister probably didn’t mean it. Maybe she just… needs the money.”
His molars ground.
“Then she won’t see a cent of her allowance from now on. Let’s see how long she lasts on a doctor’s salary.”
Once life hit her in the face, she’d come crawling back.

Triumph flashed in Queenie’s eyes. She slid naturally into his lap, hands stroking his shoulders.
“Steven, don’t be mad. My heart hurts suddenly–rub it for me?”
A thick wave of perfume hit his nose. He frowned and gently pushed her away, straightening his tie.
“Queenie, this is the office. Don’t be too intimate–if someone sees, it won’t look good.”
Her face fell.
“Steven, I truly want to be with you again. If you don’t feel the same, I won’t bother you in the future.”
His resolve wavered at her pitiful look. He finally pulled her into his arms and soothed,
“I understand. Let’s wait until after the divorce. Otherwise, if people see, it won’t be good for your reputation.”
